Battlesteads Hotel

I have only given four stars for staff because there was an issue with one member only.

staff were very friendly, room was bright clean and quiet. Menu was varied and interesting. Venue was very rural which was what was needed, good car parking all in all a good place to rest and relax.

First time in the area. Booked on-line based only on what was on the website. Absolutely outstanding place. Faultless in every respect and great value for money. Staff very, very efficient and attentive. Will return.

An older-style hotel which is being carefully improved and renovated. Our room was relatively small but perfectly adequate, the bathroom serviceable but in need of replacement - shower curtain over a bath. A fan in the room was a good touch as without it would have felt too warm. There was quite a bit of noise in the evening and morning from above. Fresh fruit, biscuits and milk we all excellent details. We found the evening meal hit and miss - starters and desserts were excellent but both mains missed the mark - a Thai seafood curry was crazily chilli hot with quite harsh flavour meaning that the excellent seafood was rather lost - game meatballs with pasta were over large so didn’t marry well with the pasta which was overcooked. Quality of ingredients were very high throughout so these were unfortunate errors in otherwise very good food - both the lemon posset and the banoffee cheesecake was very good. Breakfast was good, but a poached egg was very undercooked. Lots of positives overall though and on another day, I suspect things would have been perfect. The focus on sustainability throughout the hotel was admirable and should be commended.

Just back from an excellent two night stay at Battlefields. It is a beautiful hotel in a rural location. The staff were friendly and the service was fab. We ate at the hotel both nights and the food was delicious and of course a freshly cooked, served breakfast sets you up nicely for a day of exploring. We stayed in a lodge which was beautiful, with all amenities you can think of, a huge bathroom and a private terrace. Definitely recommend a stay here and in the future I’m sure we may even return.

You can see the owners are ploughing the profits back into the hotel. Lots of attention going into the detail of the hotel and hiring of profesional tradesmen. Although the food was good it had a limited menu for our tastes.

This was a proper little gem of a hotel. The room was spacious and clean with lots of little extras like fruit and home made biscuits. The staff were professional and helpful and the breakfast was simply the best I've ever had in a hotel. There was a great selection of continental breakfast choices (home made bread of the day is a must) followed by top quality hot dish (I recommend the haddock omelotte).
