"Afternoon Tea for a Birthday."

10.0

Though we've frequented this fine Hotel, a few times, for drinks etc, first time we've been here for Afternoon Tea. My expectations were high, of course, as per previous visits. A wonderful lady at reception, booked us in and escorted us to our table. The restaurant was classy and spacious. A very polite and friendly young lady served us and she was superb throughout. The Afternoon Tea was perfect, in every way. Everything was fresh, top quality and plentiful. As was the tea and coffee. Washed down with a Prosecco, excellent. Brilliant service from everyone there. Thank you for having us.

Location

Very small room Despite reception being at the top of a flight of stairs and our room being up a further flight of stairs there was no lift availability, only in use for disabled people. We were offered help with luggage from reception level

"We are looking forward to staying again"

10.0

Food good , service good ,room perfect

We had problems with EV charger. Staff not briefed on helping customers We were charged for the carpark in spite of the fact we used the bar for drinks and snacks and the restaurant for evening meal . Had we not been staying at the hotel, use of the carpark would have been at no cost.

"Just not quite up to expectations"

6.0

This hotel has could be so much more than average . It's a beautiful building in the centre of Tavistock. Ideal for the memorial service we were attending in the church opposite. We had 5 rooms for our family including family room , and a room with an infant . One of the travel cots provided was tiny ( doll sized too small for our 11 month old granddaughter). Rooms were very clean.Bathrooms were clean & ok other than ours which had a corner bath rather than shower with poor water pressure such that the shower attachment was like staying in remote hotels in India! Funny but 2 nights was enough. Food & service in the restaurant on Friday night was good. The sandwiches, cakes & drinks in event room for 75 or so were excellent although the aircon in this room can make it cold if you are directly under it. I was glad we as a family choose to have Mum's Wake here she would have been pleased with the food & service for this. Some members of staff very helpful others average / ok. Breakfasts good. The evening meal in Tavistock room for 20 adults and 2 toddlers was a beautiful setting although not very warm and the average food compared to the night before. Lovely room though for a family gathering. In terms of value for money I would say reasonable . I settled all bills for our 5 rooms , meals , drinks etc having informed the hotel previously I would be doing this. 48 hours later they rang for payment of 2 children's meals and a bread basket they admitted they had missed off the bill for the Saturday night . No apology just how did I want to pay . It is not the amount of money which given the overall cost that upset me but after an emotional weekend it has not left the best memory of the place. I have some lovely memories of having coffee & food in the Bedford & attending events there with my Mother during her life . It just didn't quite live up to my expectations this time & the final phone call after us as a family joining spending several £1000's here really upset me. On the whole our children and their families , my brother and children enjoyed themselves & we were able to remember Mum in a place that was special to her.

"A wonderful stay."

Loved the room which had a jacuzzi bath. The staff were helpful and professional. Wonderful breakfast with local sausages and bacon.

Had to pay for parking because we did not book directly with the hotel.
