Swan Hotel by Greene King Inns

Lovely hotel, bar, and restaurant. I used to live in Thaxted many years ago and came back to visit and chose the Swan Hotel. It didn't disappoint; staff were incredibly helpful, polite, and professional. The rooms were of a good standard: clean, well-designed, with a comfy bed! Nice shower and tea and coffee facilities, and an iron. Close to the beautiful church and amazing windmill, and just a short walk to the local amenities. Highly recommended and great value for money!

I missed dinner due to arriving late, so was looking forward to the English breakfast the next morning. I stay away regularly through work and have to say that the breakfast was the worst i have had for a very long time. When it arrived, what there was of it had clearly been left to shrivel and die under a heat lamp making it inedible and this was at 0730. Half an hour after the start of breakfast.

Stayed the night for a wedding in the area. The Swan Hotel is in a good position overlooking a lovely church that had morris dancing on the Sunday morning. A perfect place for a cold beer on a Sunday morning.

The car park gets very busy.

It was boiling hot - and not being able to open the windowns properly was very frustrating. Also we arrived in our room and it was 4pm, the sun was at its hottest and the curtains hadn't been drawn which made it worst. Having said that, we asked for an extra fan, some ice cubes and the staff were very friendly at all times. Another thing I hadn't taken into account - the hotel is right on th flight path of Stansted.
