Atlantica Ocean Beach Resort

This will be a long review but felt it deserved it after the wonderful week we had here. We travelled here with our 3 year old daughter who had her birthday during our stay. First of all, Maria, the Guest relations Manager, was incredibly friendly and helpful from the moment we contacted the hotel a few weeks before travelling. She personally ensured that our daughter had a wonderful birthday, organising a gift and balloons in our room and booking us a table at the Oregano restaurant with balloons and a candle for singing happy birthday. She also checked in with me after she had heard about a personal medical concern I had during our holiday which I thought was thoughtful and reassuring. All the staff are wonderful. The lifeguards were all fun, friendly and great with the children but also took their job very seriously which is impressive. The animation team are exceptional. 100% genuine enthusiasm and energy all day, every day (which will be hard to do after long seasons) and are incredibly friendly and approachable. They work hard to make sure those joining activities are having a great time. They also ensured the mini disco was excellent fun for all the children and made a huge effort to get our daughter on stage, with everyone singing happy birthday and making a fuss of her to celebrate which I believe she will always remember. The evening entertainment was also very good, again with the animation staff getting stuck in to ensure the good vibes. The fire show was particularly good on one of the nights. The waiters, bar staff and cleaning staff were all attentive and quick to keep your areas clear of dirty plates/cups both at the restaurant tables and when lounging around the pool. Room cleaners did an excellent job and always left fresh towels and kept the room nice throughout the week. The kids club is a beautiful little space. We met Ritsa on the first day and she is just wonderful. A natural with children of all ages, she made our daughter feel comfortable and welcome and made us feel as though she was immediately in safe hands. Ritsa remembered our daughter’s birthday and hand made her a birthday card and gave her a balloon which she loved. Lots of arts and crafts and toys to enjoy and Ritsa happily and eagerly gets stuck in with the children. The rooms are modern and very clean. I can understand why people are disappointed with the size but personally this wasn’t a problem and we knew this to be the case when we booked it. We actually had low expectations and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Considering you don’t spend too much time in there, it wouldn’t put us off going again. The food and drinks were great. Something for everyone and we loved that the theme changed each night: daughter happily catered for and the food at the Oregano restaurant on the sea front was excellent with stunning views over the water. The staff were also friendly and welcoming at Oregano, singing happy birthday for our daughter again and generally making it a lovely experience. Snacks at the pools were also very good and kept us happy through the day. The pools and water slides are very good. Perfect mix of large deeper areas for swimming and smaller toddler pools with differing depths so that younger children can safely play. We all loved the water slides and again felt as though the lifeguards were on the ball. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful. When we had a medical worry, it took less than 20 minutes for the receptionist who we approached to call around and find an appropriate clinic, book me an appointment there and then and organise a taxi to collect us immediately, knowing exactly where to drop us off. Excellent service and support. Overall we had an excellent holiday and have said we would happily come here again in the future. Our daughter had a genuinely wonderful time and that for us was key on her birthday.

Lucy and Simon from the UK This is our first visit to the Atlantic Beach Hotel. It's a clean and very welcoming hotel. The food is delicious, and the service is very friendly. Efi in the dining room is my star. The bartenders make delicious drinks. Thank you, Christos. Thank you to everyone who made our vacation so wonderful.

Lovely beach resort. Good facilities. Good food. Great for families. Right on the beach. Friendly and helpful staff. Would love to go again

This year will be my 7th time coming to this beautiful hotel...it was called Louis Creta Princess and has since changed its name, updated the rooms and also added new restaurants etc...The staff are amazing..the food is amazing and the hotel is clean and smells lovely everywhere you go. The House Keeping are great and I want to say THANK YOU for the Body Lotion it smells amazing and my skin is soooo soft 🩷 I also want to thank Andreas for being so lovley he really is the nicest Manager and goes above and beyond to help you so THANK YOU 💙and I also want to thank Efi Takis for amazing food and service...The cakes and desserts are THE BEST 🩷Christos yannis Irene Eli Sofia Katerina Georgia for making me feel special and and all my friends that I am lucky to say are family to me... HONESTLY this hotel is amazing and i cannot wait for next year xxx

Faultless experience. The food, the pool, the room. Everything was amazing. Got a room upgrade on arrival which was great and made the experience even better. Different theme with food every day as well as the usual ones you get every day. Enough choice for kids too and the snack bar was very tasty with Gyros, pizza and salads every day. The pools are so good, one really big one with different heights each side which is great for kids when they can touch the bottom. A little kids pool with some slides and squirters. A kids slide pool and the big slide pool which of course I had to go down. The entertainment team were always friendly and tried getting little ones up every day for the mini disco which our little one loved. Drink bar can get busy in the school holidays but queue goes down quickly and cocktails are lovely. Also had a side part which had a bouncy castle and a few ride on cars which was good and kept the little one busy. Transfer was about 1 hour 20 on the shared coach but would be about 30-40 mins in a private taxi. The beach is pebbled which we knew and once you got in the sea was nice, most of the time was red flagged but thats nature for you. We would come back in a heartbeat and will always have special memories for me and my family. Thank you.

Not 5 stars – families beware (Bravo Tours booking) We travelled with Bravo Tours as 2 adults with two children (5 years and 1.5 years) together with friends who also had a child. Unfortunately, our stay started with a very disappointing experience. The first room we were given was extremely small and completely unsuitable for a family of four. An extra bed was squeezed in, and the baby cot was placed under a shelf, so our little one hit her head when trying to stand up. The bathroom was so tiny that I could hardly sit on the toilet, and the grout in the corners was dirty and in desperate need of renovation. This felt nothing like a 5-star hotel. When we complained, the hotel first offered us a suite for an extra 9,000 DKK (~€1,200). However, my wife checked Bravo Tours’ own system and found that the upgrade was actually listed at 6,000 DKK (~€800). Only after pointing this out did they agree to the lower price. The fact that they initially tried to overcharge us by €400 is unacceptable and feels like a scam. The suite was of course better, but nowhere near worth the extra money. In the end, we spent around €4,150 for just one week, and for that price the overall standard should be much higher. On the positive side, the food is very good, the all-inclusive works well, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The pools and children’s facilities are also nice, and our kids enjoyed them. But the overall impression is dragged down massively by poor rooms, hidden costs, and what felt like an attempt to cheat us on the upgrade price. The resort markets itself as 5 stars, but in reality it is no more than 3.5–4.

Not 5 stars – families beware We travelled as 2 adults with two children (5 years and 1.5 years) together with friends who also have a child. Unfortunately, our stay started with a very poor experience. The first room we received was extremely small and in no way suitable for a family of four. There was an extra bed squeezed in as well as a baby cot placed under a shelf, so our little one hit her head when she tried to stand up. The bathroom was so tiny that I could hardly sit on the toilet, and the grout in the corners was dirty and clearly in need of renovation. It felt anything but 5 stars. After complaining, the only solution offered was to move to a suite – but only if we paid an additional €800. We had no choice with two small children, so we upgraded. The suite was better, but definitely not worth the extra money. It honestly feels like a trick to push families into paying more once they arrive. In total, we ended up spending around €4,150 for just one week, and for that price the standard should be much higher. This is simply not acceptable. On the positive side, the food is really good, the all-inclusive package works very well, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The pool areas and facilities are also nice, especially for children, and the kids enjoyed the activities. However, the overall impression is heavily affected by the fact that you cannot rely on getting a room that actually fits the number of people you book for. The resort advertises itself as 5 stars, but in reality it feels much more like 3.5–4 stars. Families should be warned: unless you are willing to pay extra for a suite, the rooms are far below what you expect at this price level.

I never write reviews however feel like this one is necessary, will keep as brief as I can! Start with the negatives: - Food poisoning! Both me & my partner. I’m not the first person on here to say this but the hotel were quick to dismiss me when this was raised. - Very, very basic food/cocktails. - Rooms are tiny, images online are very cleverly taken to mislead you - not suitable for more than a couple. - Room cleanliness is shocking - on arrival hair all over the shower, the daily ‘cleans’ was just your bed dressed (poorly) with no clean sheets and clean towels irregularly. - Wasps swarming the drinks machines - I am petrified of wasps so we bought from the shop all holiday. - As a family of non-smokers we struggled with the amount of groups of adults (no children) that sat around the children’s pools chain smoking - they should not be allowed near kids areas. - There are only 2 very small lifts for hotel, only 1 family per lift which means you were waiting a while at busy times like evening meals etc. (The list goes on but these were the main things!) Positives- Good location. Beach area is nice. Pool areas are great for kids. The hotel decor is fine. Overall just do not recommend at all. It is not a 4+ star by no means.

Lovely place. Great pool(s), sides and pool area. The food is varied with themes as well as the Normal buffet offerings. Staff are amazing and helpful. The snack bar is really good with burgers, hot dogs, salads, gyros and pizzas throughout the day. Loads of drinks available with generally no queues at all. There is self serve for beer and soft drinks. My only observations are 1. that the hotel is the other side of Chania from the airport so drop offs can take a bit of time. I’d suggest a taxi or private transfer unless you’re happy to wait. And 2. The rooms would be a little tight for a family with bigger/older children. I’d say if they’re maybe 10+ then consider a suite.
