"Has potential to be fantastic"

6.0

We recently stayed at the newly opened HYLL hotel and it was lovely and tranquil. I do think it will be a perfect little getaway once it is fully up and running. Currently it has building works with construction vehicles laying across the gardens and some of the garden is dug up which is a shame. The only other issue is bags of dog poo at the front and rear doors which need to either be cleaned or have a bin for them. However it is still lovely has some incredible cosy rooms with fires, art and board games and the food is divine! I will come back!

"Romantic getaway"

10.0

My husband surprised me with a Valentine’s romantic getaway at this hotel, and it was such a lovely experience. We felt very lucky to stay here. The service was excellent, staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The food was also very nice, well prepared, and enjoyable, which really added to the whole experience. It was a relaxing and romantic break, perfect for couples looking to spend quality time together. We had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

"Quiet luxury done perfectly"

10.0

We stayed here last Friday with friends and honestly couldn’t have loved it more. It’s the most gorgeous country retreat — relaxed, stylish, and welcoming in a way that instantly makes you feel at home. Our room was stunning, with beautiful design details and thoughtful touches everywhere you looked. Dinner was exceptional: scallops to start, halibut for main, and a cheese board followed by the chocolate mousse torte — every course was delicious and perfectly judged. Afterwards, drinks in the lounge by the record player was such a special touch and really summed up the atmosphere: cosy, calm, and effortlessly cool. Breakfast the next morning was just as wonderful — unhurried and relaxed, like staying in a very chic friend’s house. The eggs Florentine were perfect, and the muesli pot with honey from their own on-site bees was such a lovely detail. The whole place feels warm, thoughtful, and beautifully designed. I am now completely obsessed with the Hyll aesthetic — I want my house to look like this — and we’re already planning our next visit. One of those places you want to return to again and again.

"Would stay again in a heartbeat!"

10.0

Absolutely loved the hotel from start to finish. The building is beautiful, the room was lovely and the food was fantastic. Upon arrival, Lara the receptionist was attentive and friendly and showed us to our room. Radio 3 was playing in the background and every detail in the room was considered and on brand. We sat in the lounge and had drinks and snacks by the fire after arriving with our friends, before getting ready for supper. I had scallops and the spatchcock poussin then we shared the cheeseboard and the baklava tart for dessert before settling down in the snug with a few gin and tonics and a record on. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. The group thoroughly enjoyed their stay and wouldn’t hesitate in coming back. Thanks to everyone at HYLL for such a lovely and relaxing stay!

"Charming hotel will return"

10.0

First thanks to the staff for a fabulous weekend, from owner Paul making sure we were ok while waiting to check in through to all the staff. We were a group of 6 and all commented on how friendly and helpful everyone was. Examples were bringing lost objects to us, personalising wine choice, great service. The hotel is a delight, we enjoyed all the lounges and restaurant, food great and a very good choice of drinks. Chilled water in hall was appreciated. Bedrooms quirky and comfortable.

"Perfect gate away for relaxing as a couple"

10.0

A excellent 4 night stay booked via secret escapes. We stayed on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis. Great quality and selection of foods on the menu. All staff amazing however big shout out to Bella on check in for our free upgrade due to the building work ( we didn’t know this was being carried out when we booked) both Rob/ert in the restaurants and bar area as-well as Steph. The staff can’t do enough for you. We were privileged to met the owner while chilling out in one of three open fire lounges a few days into our break Paul what a lovely guy. We socialised with several couples whilst we stayed which was lovely to share a drink and conversations so openly and in such a comfy environment. Thank you Autumn the dog and owners Laura and Simon. Loved the fact you could chill out in one of the lounges any time of day with there great selection of new books to borrow, board games or even the origami. We used the record player to play some old tunes too. Would love some newer tunes to the collection too. Weather wasn’t great had a quick look at the front of the manor very impressive grounds and would be lovely on a nice day relaxing with a cocktail or two. Room was a courtyard comfy with lounge no 23 was a lovely upgrade. Loved seperate lounge area. Bathroom with double sinks, shower and bath.Main room consisted of dressing table, settee fridge, radio, tv,coffee machine, homemade biscuits daily and the superking bed and bedding just Zzzzzzzzz. Downsides/ in the middle of nowhere however we liked the remoteness No chest of drawers for undies socks , folded clothes. Hooks in bathroom for robes would be an advantage. Amazing stay.

"Heaven at Hyll Hotel"

10.0

Hyll is an incredibly special place. We spent just one night there & were blown away. The setting is simply perfect-overlooking the green countryside and the perfect garden for a sunset. Everything in the hotel is geared at you enjoying the most relaxing time possible from the moment you walk in. The smells, the lighting, the music. The hotel has three lounges with roaring fires in winter, light reading or puzzles to do. There’s an LP room to play vinyls and increase your relaxation. The bedroom encapsulates tranquility with the comfiest of huge beds, beautiful views and a stunning stand-alone, Victorian style bathtub. Even the kettle is a slow-pour kettle for a relaxing brew. Perfection. Dinner was a delight with exceptional service. Starter and main in the beautiful ambient restaurant and dessert in the lounge by the fire. Close to beautiful villages like Chipping Campden if you wish to venture out - although that’s unlikely. Serenity!

"Perfect pre-Christmas getaway"

10.0

We loved our one night stay at Hyll. A short pre-Christmas get away and it could not have been better. Lovely room that was small but very well designed. We had the dog with us and she was made very welcome. We had supper and the food was fantastic, inventive and delicious. Breakfast equally good. Would come back, but will go for a larger room.

"Great addition to the area"

8.0

When we recently heard Charingworth Manor had changed hands we excitedly booked for dinner with friends. The old hotel is unrecognisable! Hyll’s interior design is fabulous. Big squidgy sofa with a roaring fire for drinks then ultra modern, beautiful restaurant and bar for dinner. The staff were very friendly, not quite 5 star but their friendly demeanour made up for it. The glasses, cutlery and crockery were also really good quality; I think a wine glass can make or break the wine. Cocktails and mocktails were very good as was the wine we chose. The food was ‘OK’, but I was expecting more based on the prices and decor. Scallops were over cooked and over salted. Poussin was cooked nicely, but bashed potatoes were dry and powdery without much taste. Husband’s steak was very small for £38 and not cooked to perfection. Chocolate torte was the star of the meal. The restaurant was very quiet for this time of year with only a handful of tables occupied. We guessed this was maybe because the marketing wasn’t in full swing yet? There was talk of a soirée to introduce local people which we thought would be a great idea. There were a few other things that could have helped our experience: more obvious signage for the main entrance, dinner menus offered in the lounge whilst having drinks (we had to ask for them and then only provided with two between four), a separate wine list with introduction to the cellar and descriptions of wines (the wine is expensive but the list is buried in the bar menu with no descriptions). Overall, we really enjoyed the Hyll experience and wish them every success. Hopefully the hotel and restaurant will be a great addition to the local community.
