"Love this hotel"

10.0

I absolutely loved my stay at Hyll, so much so that it will now become a Christmas tradition. The atmosphere in the hotel was amazing and was created by the staff with how accommodating they are. To be honest it was the staff that made the whole stay even better than it was already and a special mention the the girls on reception Lara, Sacha and Djoney who were extremely friendly and polite, but the main aspect that stuck with me was how helpful they were. Also the ladies in the restaurant Jenny and Zoe were very nice. Hyll also captured the Christmas spirit perfectly with the decor of the hotel and they really put a lot of effort into it which made the stay feel even more relaxing. It takes a lot for me to get in the Christmas spirit, but I definitely felt it here. The interior of the hotel and rooms has that Scandi vibe which I loved and I booked the Courtyard Cozy Room with lounge which was a large suite. The rooms are amazing and very relaxing and they have captured that feel brilliantly. Overall the hotel is aesthetically pleasing in an amazing with the setting, with a long drive leading up to the hotel. I live close by so I’ll definitely be there more often whether it’s just ti dine out or stay again. So pleased I found this place. It’s amazing

"100% recommend this idyllic country escape"

10.0

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful stay here last weekend. It's one of those places, that, from the minute you pull up, you relax! Really gorgeous surroundings, with a warm and cosy feel in the main house and rooms. The room felt super luxurious for such an affordable cost and the service throughout our stay was top level. Special shout out to Jenny - you were amazing and I would come back just to chat to you! We also had such a delicious meal on the evening in the restaurant - and almost had the place to ourselves. It was just so calming. Could not recommend this idyllic hotel more if you want a very relaxing Cotswolds retreat. We will be back!

"Great Stay"

8.0

We booked Hyll for a one night stay in November, it is a really lovely place. The room was across the court yard and although it was lovely there were just a couple of small issues we found. The room is very dimly lit with no big light available. The coffee & tea making facilities are really lovely but I had to use my mobile torch to make the coffee as the corner was extremely dark & I couldn't see what I was doing. The bathroom was nice but didn't have a mirror which i found odd and there were no drawers of any kind in the room. We ate in the restaurant on the evening and the food did not disappoint, it was really fantastic! If we lived locally I would definitely eat there often. Breakfast again was great, with really good choices, for me as a vegetarian there was lots of choices of hot breakfasts & I would say it was one of the best breakfasts we have eaten in all the times we have been away! We would definitely return to stay here again.

"Good food"

8.0

We had an enjoyable stay at this newly refurbished hotel. Good: tasty dinner - highly recommend the delicious poussin, very good quality breakfast - highly recommend the excellent porridge with brown sugar and cream. Location is pretty with nice views and not far from Chipping Camden and Broadway. Work in progress: there needs to be a bit more to do for example a walk on the grounds, spa treatments. The lounges were lovely but very smoky and sometimes busy. Our room was a bit noisy above the restaurant but this was handled well by staff which we appreciated. The shower was good but very small and leaked onto the floor. Our living room area had low ceilings and was too dark to read in. Nice Dyson hairdryer but no socket near a mirror and no make up mirror. No doubt over time these factors will be improved as it expands and it will become a lovely place to stay if the quality of the food remains as we experienced it.

"Simply stunning - old and new worlds creatively combined into one"

10.0

I spent the most delightful day and night at Hyll and was blown away by the whole experience which has been thought through down to the most meticulous details. The renovation and all construction work has been carried out to the highest standard, combining the best in local materials and craftsmanship with state of the art contemporary design. It clever respects and celebrates the historic building as a foundation for a cutting edge rebirth. I can't wait to see the new function/marraige hall brought to life as it will surely make this venue unbeatable As a creative I particularly liked the art and books avialable to enjoy, right down to a record player in the library and supply of vinyl to help guests curate a soundtrack to which they could peruse the books and magazines that had been laid out.. The team of staff, from the local community, were delightful - passionate, helpful and, importantly, human - this is no corprate hospitality machine but a business that knows its brand will never be better than the people delivering it. The bedroom, as one might expect, was appointed to the highest standard with the finest bed linen and bathroom products. I didn't want to leave it. My favourite and most inspiring detail of my stay had been left on the bed side table - two tiny books that had been designed, written and illustrated in house simply entitled - Do Nothing and Do Something. Which said it all. I can think of nowher ebetter to go to Do whatever I want.

"Absolutely fabulous setting, ambience, staff and afternoon tea!!!"

10.0

I booked my friend and I in for a full afternoon tea to celebrate her 'big' birthday. We knew the venue previously as the Charringworth Manor Hotel and remembered the fabulous views, so were a little disappointed it was a misty, damp day. However, on arrival the cosy and welcoming atmosphere put aside any disappointment. The renovations were sympathetic to the character of the building, but made it feel really fresh whilst being super cosy. The lady who welcomed us and took our coats could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The gentleman serving us in the restaurant was so polite but warm, putting us immediately at ease. Nothing was too much trouble. The tea itself was one of the best I have had in a long time (and I have had quite a few!!). The savoury selection in particular was unusual, freshly hand made and delicious. The scones were perfect and sweet/cake selection just right. Everything was fresh. The ambience was really relaxing, with just enough attention from the staff (including several free tea top ups) to make sure we were happy, but without being obtrusive. The new owner even came over and had a chat. When the tea 'beat us' we were offered a box to take away the excess. We were also encouraged to have a look around at the 3 lounges that had been refurbished - oh wow!!! There were roaring log fires in all 3 lounges, one for 'reading', one for 'chatting' and one with an old fashioned record deck and vinyl records. I could so have just curled up on a sofa in any of the options. I would 100% recommend this hotel for an afternoon tea, and would so love to experience an evening dining experience there (or, even better, a stay!!).

"The staff make this place so special"

10.0

Just been to the hotel on business for 3 days and wow how all the staff are like family and so professional in each of there jobs i do not want to name people for the fear of missing someone out. from the kitchen to bar housekeeping and maintenance and finally check in nothing was ever a problem for them to sort and each and every member plays a crucial role and makes you feel so special and i hope the owners appreciate this as without these special people you do not have a hotel. Extra bonus at xmas for you all i hope Will be back again soon as the beds and food are to die for WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED MANY THANKS AGAIN MOLLY

"Trendy but not functional, don't forget to bring a torch."

4.0

We stayed for 1 night on a Saturday for a birthday suprise. We booked a Manor House room which is the highest category room available at HYLL. On arriving we were checked in promptly and shown to our room but strangely we were led through the restaurant, down a steep set of steps (with no hand rail) and into the courtyard to the rear of the Manor House. To our surprise we had been allocated a very small dark room which was of the lowest category available at the hotel (Cozy Courtyard). The main word I will use to describe the room is DARK! It was so dark inside that we found it to be disorientating. It felt like being inside a dark cave. The walls, furniture and bed were all a dark brown and the lighting was so dim and inadequate that we could not see around room properly. The room had a small window looking out to a road. A very tiny TV was affixed the wall which was impossible to watch from the bed and could not be adjusted. The bathroom was very small with no windows or ventilation and the smallest wash basin I have ever seen in a hotel, this was the type of sink you would see in a cloakroom. There were no drawers or furniture to allow us store our belongings and the bedside tables where made from two large pieces of black wood. I went to reception to tell them there had been a mistake with the room as we had paid for a Deluxe Manor House room. After checking I was told Agoda had made an error and because the hotel was full for the night this was the only room available to us. I asked for the supervisor who apologised and agreed to refund the difference between the rate we had paid and the cost of the category of room we had been given. On getting back to room we noticed it was very cold, the radiator was cold to touch and we could find no thermostat or instructions for the heating. I again returned to reception to let them know. Richard on reception was very apologetic ge followed me back to the room checked the radiator and explained the only option was to provide us with a portable electric radiator for the night, this was essential as it was forecast to be -1 °c overnight. I explained that we were unhappy due to already having a mixup with the room. Richard apologised and offered us a free meal in the restaurant as a gesture of goodwill. The building itself is a 17th-century manor house and the exterior is stunning. The location is on top of a hill with amazing views. Unfortunately the recent renovation has focused too much on looking trendy for Instagram rather than functionality of the rooms and the guest experience. My main issue with the room we stayed in was it was so dark it was impossible to see anything, I had to use the light on my mobile phone to make a coffee to prevent scolding myself. We so noticed the room was dusty with many smudges and marks on the walls. This is probably because the cleaners are unable to see the dust or marks with such low light. The bathroom is not fit for purpose, there is nowhere to store anything and the mirror steams up after one use meaning it can't be used, it takes over an hour to clear due to there being no windows or ventilation. For a woman doing makeup or hair it is completely impossible to get ready. Breakfast the following morning was not great, very disorganised with a limited choice of cold items. The bread ran out and was not replinished, we had no cups on our table and had to ask for cereal bowls also the loose leaf tea was awful and very weak. It's such shame as this is beautiful manor house that has the potential to be something very special but unfortunately all the focus has been put into creating trendy interior design which looks good on Instagram but no thought has been given to functionality of the rooms or the comfort of guests. At this price range its completely unacceptable and we would not return. If I was to compare HYLL with other hotels of this grade in the area such as Dormy House near Broadway there really is no comparison.

"Wonderful visit"

10.0

Lovely hotel, beautiful building. We had a warm welcome from Bella who showed us to our very comfortable warm and very clean room. Modern decor with darkish paint on all walls and ceiling which made the room feel a little dark Gorgeous bed with top class linen. The room was so cosy and very quiet. A sumptuous big deep bath tub with lovely hot water and good toiletries. Good hospitality tray with well stocked mini bar. We did not dine at the hotel as we were meeting friends. However when we returned in the evening we relaxed in one of the absolutely fabulous lounges with a log fire and lovely sofas. We were looked after by lovely Jen who served us our drinking chocolate by the fire, wonderful. A really quiet nights sleep We then woke to a fabulous breakfast in the gorgeous dining room, again served by Jen and the great waiting staff. The food was superb. We loved our night here and would strongly recommend to fellow travellers G and C Thomas
