"Good"

6.0

The first thing we noticed when we got to our room is that it had no shelving: not a single place to put your clothes except the ones you hang. The second thing we noticed, when we looked out the window the next morning (we got in at night), was that our supposed "Garden View" room was instead a "Parking Lot View" room. This prompted the following priceless comment from the front desk: "Garden View rooms need not have a view of the garden." Then, at the end of our stay, wasps chewed a hole in the roof of our room and began entering one by one. The manager gave us £50 off our bill (on a room that cost £300 per night) for the wasps and another £50 for the parking lot view (after repeating the priceless line about Garden view rooms not needing a garden view). This is a beautiful property, with kind and friendly people at the front desk, but it is managed terribly - certainly not worth the steep price we paid. I wish we had stayed elsewhere and recommend that others do.

"Too much building work."

2.0

Not a pleasant experience. Downgraded on arrival, builders everwhere, noise throughout the day, no hooks in bathroom, no chairs in room. Perhaps it’s a Japanese minimal thing, but it doesn’t work. We left asap. Staff lovely though. I was looking forward to this as part of my 60th but really dissapointed.

"Major disappointment "

2.0

We were disappointed we were downgraded from the Manor Suite we had booked to a very small room on our arrival. It that wasn't bad enough, the area around this room was literally a building site and we were unpleasantly surprised to find the workmen hammering away all around when we got back to hotel late in the morning. They could not give us another room, so we had no choice but to leave. We were told work in the rooms would continue till July, so I would avoid this place till then.

"Excellent"

8.0

The hotel has new owners and is under renovation. Our room was all brown, kind of cave-like to mimic a stable. We ran out of toilet paper and there was no spare at 7 am. There are no tissues either, but a really nice espresso machine. Breakfast was amazing, with smoothies and a cooked menu. The location was great. We hiked to Ebrington and through the countryside. Views from the manor were beautiful.

"Exceptional"

10.0

The property was undergoing a significant renovation thus the only reason we didn’t give it an excellent condition. Although what wasn’t impacted by the renovation was top tier. Would love to return after the renovation to see the updated manor. The staff was excellent, with special note to the chef and server Jenny (sp?) and her trainee.

"Great place"

10.0

We had a Buy a Gift voucher, and we had omitted to “register” it. But it was no problem, the receptionist was so very helpful and soon had it sorted The afternoon tea was superb, nothing was too much trouble The place is beautiful, historic with great views The main restaurant is being refurbished, but the room we sat in was perfect

"Luxury hotel in lovely gardens with a great restaurant "

10.0

Fabulous hotel in lovely gardens with a great restaurant. Very helpful staff. Our large luxury suite was delightful with 2 aspects, large bathroom, and perfect. Not cheap, but worth what you pay. We stayed in the main house, but there are lodges around a lake. Only downside is that meals are in a coach house a short walk away, so if raining is a problem.

"Nice location, pretty property, nice staff, sleep quality not great"

8.0

I liked this place and would stay here again. They're doing some construction but it's only in the daytime and didn't inconvenience us. If you wanted to nap in your room and needed absolute quiet it might become an issue, but we didn't have any problems. I originally was concerned about the location, being outside of town, but Chipping Campden is only a few miles away, and it was nice in some ways to be in a quieter less-trafficked location. The restaurant is fine. Staff was nice and friendly. My one complaint was sleep quality. The bed in our garden terrace room was extremely small, probably the smallest we've encountered traveling. Definitely smaller than queen sized, and my wife and I kept bumping into each other and waking up. Then oddly complimenting that, the pillows were huge, so large and firm that our heads were propped up at a weird angle. I ended up just using the edge of the pillow. Anything else was really uncomfortable. I perhaps could have asked for a different pillow but we were only there for 3 nights so I just sucked it up. Sleeping aside it seemed like a nice enough place.

"Probably the best cream tea we’ve had!"

10.0

Cream Tea for Two. Charingworth Manor is beautifully situated in the Cotswolds and has far ranging views. Our cream tea was nicely presented and had very tasty selection of canapés (not just sandwiches like many teas), freshly baked scones, a variety of small cakes and good selection of teas. Nothing was too much trouble for our host Jenny.

"Excellent Sunday lunch"

8.0

We had not realised the extent of the building work being undertaken but we did have a lovely Sunday lunch in the Orangerie. Service and attention by Jenny was truly excellent and she is certainly a real asset to this hotel. The food was excellent and we look forward to returning once the building work is complete. The ambience will be better once more people start going there.
