Balkan Hotel Garni

Great hotel with good service. Front desk receptionist even walked with us across the street to buy a calling card to make a phone call and even helped us at a public phone to make a phone call. Nice breakfast and only a bus ride into the city, bus 37. Nice room with good variety of channels. Would definitely stay again.

This is the second time I am staying in Balkan Garni. I had a very good time at the hotel. The staff are excellent. I booked a single room and was offered a family room with additional sofa. And this time no smell of smoke in the room. Very good! No good restaurants close by however the staff offered to arrange to and fro taxi to a nearby restaurant. Will definitely stay in Balkan Garni in future. Thanks

It's seem look nice this hotel....

The room was clean, however I think none of the rooms are "Non-Smoking". So it depends on your luck/unluck you may end up in a room stinking with cigarette. Don't forget your gas mask! The toilet seat was not fixed properly, and does not stay upright - difficult for men ! :-) Otherwise overall it was okay, the staff was good, breakfast was good for the price I paid! No good restaurants near by, so have to depend on fast foods and some cafe!

I loved the place. I needed to open a bank account and I asked my hotel staff where a police station was to go get a "white Card" needed to open a bank account. She turned around to get me a "white card" with my name on it. They had already gone for me (without my asking them to) they had already gone to the police station to get be a "white card". It was just the most incredible thing.

I made a stop here for three nights before going to see my family in Romania for the winter holidays and was surprised at how the hotel was hidden inside a larger building. One small sign on the main street hints at its existence while the main entrance is around the back. You can't park on the main street, but there's room around the back. The secure parking isn't really secure, just two spots that you need to book from before and a chest-height gate with no roof above. I was initially worried about my Mercedes E320 with German plates but everything was fine, because: 1. there's little traffic and 2. people there are very honest and friendly. The receptionists all speak very good English and were very helpful in suggesting what there might be to do during the day and night. Have the hotel call you a taxi to go somewhere because unofficial taxis will cheat you. Skadarlija street is a must see, lined with restaurants, after 8 p.m. the restaurants' own musicians play traditional Serbian folk music. There're very few signs if any of the wars that passed through here in the 90s; everyone was hardworking, industrious, and hospitable; aiming to make sure everything was just right for your visit, e.g. restaurants. Most people in the touristy parts of town knows some English, but German and Russian is slightly more prevalent in a few places. I plan to come back in the summer sometime to take advantage of the romantic view of the convergence of the Sava and Danube rivers.
