Hôtel Sawa

Located 5 minutes walk from Pullman Douala, the Hotel Sawa is popular with government VIPs and is functional for hotel guests and has six function rooms as well as two tennis courts and a good sized swimming pool.

quiet, yet close to airport and business district. no grandiose comfort but good asa work-base. also close to good restaurants. surrounded by military areas so it is super safe. that's why it is used by politicians and diplomats.

I spend two nights at this property, about a week apart from each other. Both rooms had a comfortable bed, good air conditioning, and strong internet. However, both rooms were poorly maintained or serviced (e.g., neither room had a shower that connected to wall, it was handheld only, one room was missing toilet paper dispensers, old bread was in one fridge). Service was very slow by the pool, and the kitchen did not have many items listed on the pool side dining menu. Breakfast was actually very good, especially the fish. The front desk gives a very poor rate for exchanging US Dollars to XFA. There are loud and late parties around the pool at night, so I was fortunate to have a room facing the parking lot instead of pool. Overall, my room and bed were comfortable, and I would consider staying at Hotel Sawa again if I am in Douala.

This place was a bit run down, but the staff was very friendly and they have a good restaurant. Nothing spectacular, but ok for an overnight (and probably more comfortable than most other places once you start traveling to smaller cities).

The hotel staff are friendly, but the rooms are a bit moldy and damp--constant struggle for places in douala. The restaurant takes a long time to order, and for large conferences they can't keep up with the demand, even though they do try hard. I'd rate this as a 2.5/5 hotel because I find it just under average.

The Hotel Sawa is very big on large grounds with a nice pool. Room was ok, though hotel generally needs an update. Clearly the option for conferences and meetings and so on so often lots of people on site and means pool out of action. Weekend events from time to time too. Close to airport and a little outside of city Centre. Ask for a room on higher floors if you want to enjoy the great views.

The SAWA has been slowly sprucing back up. I have been coming here on business for a number of years and the last two years have shown improvements. The room had been freshened up, was clean (never an issue) AC worked well (improvement) and the hand held shower had a bracket (improvement). I don't do the breakfast buffet. Internet seemed more reliable this trip but it was a short stay.

A big hotel outside city center with restaurant, swimming pool and good service level. But the hotel need to bee renovated, many of the rooms should have been closed for renovation. Also the restaurants are old fashioned.

we reserved two rooms facing each other. after flying 16 hours only to arrive at hotel and one room not ready. Clerk suggested I check into another room them check out and recheck into prior reserved room once ready! Bizzare, after long flight was in no mood for this experience. Day two, room service asked if I would require room serviced? I don't know I responded given I just woke up. Then she insisted I give her a schedule for the day to know when to clean the room. Say what? are guests required to spell out their entire itinerary to hotel staff. I simply placed the DND sign and walked off. Third upon checkin we were provided free wifi access. Yah!!! except wifi never worked unless it was 3:00am. The rooms were okay but old. I did see at least one roach in my bathroom You do get a nice tray of fruit, bottled water and desert, compliments of the owner upon check in . . . sort of a personal touch.

Have stayed here a number of times and they are working to spruce the place up. Fresh paint, new elevators, generally cleaner. However, it is an old property and there is still work to be done. For example on the air conditioning in the rooms, fixing shower heads (though always plenty of hot water), and providing ammenities like a water boiler for tea and coffee. The outside area is pleasant especially for breakfast (skip the breakfast buffet) or for the evening wind down.
