"Disappointing overall. Mentioned the shower problem at checkout and got a “don’t really care’ sorry!"

3.0

On arrival the reception area smelt of dirty dogs! Not a great first impression. I love dogs, I have a dog and it’s great that hotels offer dog friendly stays. But to have dirty wet dog smell as your first impression wasn’t great. Room was small in attic with slopping ceilings that my friend bumped her head on several times (no signage, it info advising of room with slopping ceilings) The bathroom wasn’t particularly well cleaned with marks in the toilet and the shower. The shower started with hot water and then stopped any sort of water flow once you were covered in shower gel! This happened when my friend showered on the evening, and exactly the same when I took my shower the following morning. Terrible stay. The mattress topper on one of the twin beds slid off in the night, mattress underneath was badly stained. Plenty of tea/coffee/milk in room for cuppas which was nice. Overall disappointing stay.

Location was good. Central Tetbury. Close to nice shops

"Really lovely place to drink eat and stay"

10.0

It’s superbly furnished, decorated and stylish, great bar area to enjoy drinks, extremely friendly and helpful staff, very good food quality and bedrooms with comfortable beds and great shower. What’s not to like, very central for Tetbury, and really good value Stewart who met us and did all the “hotel stuff “ was exemplary and all staff should be commended. It is a place we would return to as a good base for doing the “Cotswolds “ thing as many attractions are easy driving distance

"My experience/s at The Ormond, Tetbury."

2.0

I had been to The Ormond on a few occasions and seen people eating what looked like fabulous burgers. Having not had one in a while I was looking forward to trying one myself but when we arrived we were told that the menu had changed and that the burger I wanted was no longer available. I found a few things interesting; the menu claimed to provide food from their kitchen garden, but to my knowledge they do not have a kitchen garden with which to provide these items. The menu also claimed to have ‘seasonal vegetables’ with an asparagus dish near to late summer. I was deeply disappointed by the menu itself, and even more so by the meal. It was dreadful. A medium rare steak came out rare and stone cold and even me who is not a chef could tell they hadn’t had the steak out of the fridge for a bit before cooking it. I don’t eat out much at all and so this meal left me frustrated and sad. A chef who supposedly had trained under a Michelin starred chef should cook every meal to a high standard for a paying customer whether that meal is beans on toast or Beef Wellington, but we felt as if they couldn’t care less. The bar staff were very helpful but we felt as though they were walking on tenterhooks (with who we could only assume was the manager/s) when it came to making a decision as to what should be done about the meal. We were told we’d be reimbursed and our waitress had dealt with the situation brilliantly, and then that suddenly changed to us being given tea and cake instead of the reimbursement, which we didn’t want. The cake was like one of those ones that comes in a cellophane wrapper, the type you get on a train or hospital canteen basket at the check out. We felt as if The Ormand doesn’t quite know what it’s wanting to be. Is it high end (no)… is it mid range… I’m not even sure about that given some of the reviews I’ve read and my own experience, plus that ‘A’ board and the swirling strip club type light on the pavement. It’s sad because it has huge potential and could be amazing. On another note, I’m not sure what’s been done to the front of the hotel. It’s been beautifully repainted with a lovely navy but they’ve put black along the bottom which looks most peculiar and harsh. I’ve had a number of people comment on it to me and none of us can think of a reason as to why it’s been done. I appreciate the hotel being the age that it is might need a barrier paint, but that black is a stark contrast to the beautiful navy above..
