"Ci torneremo."

10.0

Niente!

"Old-town hotel with historical charm and modern conveniences"

10.0

The hotel is a wonderful combination of history (public rooms and furnishings) and modern conveniences (up-to-date bathrooms). It was centrally located in Old Town Lucerne. The room was quiet and had very comfortable beds and pillows. There were many "his and hers" amenities: robes and slippers; separate closets; dual sinks; a modern tub and shower; electrical outlets for recharging mobile phones and light switches on both sides of the bed; and two portable luggage racks. The lighting in the bathroom was excellent. The windows could be opened for fresh air. There was a turndown service in the evening. The breakfast buffet was excellent with meats, cheeses, breads, muesli, and an assortment of juices and hot beverages. The staff was very friendly and informative. After I asked about the origin of the hotel's name "Der Wilde Mann," a staff member told me about the triangular painting of the Wild Man in a dining room that was originally part of the Kapellbrücke; it had been donated to the Hotel before the tragic fire of 1993, making it one of the few paintings that have survived from that iconic bridge. The hotel was great. However, the cobble-stone streets (especially for rolling luggage) and the rather speedy bicyclists might annoy some visitors. No problem for us.
