We stayed one night, and regret that we could not stay longer. This is the place to go in the Windermere area for peace, quiet, lovely surroundings, and delicious food. Beatrix Potter fans: Hill Top Farm is right next door! If I ever make it back to the Lake district again, this is where I will be.

"Period house on top of hill with lovely views"

6.0

Having seen this hotel on a previous visit to Bowness, my sister and I wanted to experience staying here as it looked amazing from the outside. But it actuality we were disappointed. Though the beds were comfortable enough the room wasn't very clean, cobwebs in lamp shade and dirty Windows. Our ensuite was freezing even though the heating was on full blast. The whole room could have done with an overhaul. The few staff available were pleasant enough, maybe a bit over friendly and the bar was unattended - had to look for someone to get us drinks in the evening. Breakfast was good.

"I will stay again"

10.0

Lovely small country house hotel, excellent restaurant and breakfast, single room warm and cosy, excellent local walks and access to cross-lake ferry only a mile or so away. Cuckoo Brow Inn was a lovely place for a local walk and coffee retreat from the rain. Hotel is next door to Hill Top / Beatrix Potter place.

We were turned away when we arrived at 1:30pm - after a 3hr journey. We were unable to sit down in the lounge or access any hotel facilities. After paying £30 extra for a lake view, it was dark when we arrived in the room and the old windows were full of condensation in the morning. ... waste of money. Checkout was at 11am Sunday.

"A proper little haven"

10.0

Sawrey House was our ultimate stay after 10 days of English / Scottish travelling, bedevilled by foul weather. Whilst the weather remained awful, the hotel proved a haven to sooth our frazzled nerves. The premises have been comprehensively, tastefully and effectively refurbished and exuded a delightfully "country house" ambience. Set in glorious (if damp) lake-land countryside, with gardens and views to match, it was well appointed, comfortable, pin neat and presented the finest dining experience we've had for ages. The chef's "Specials" were exceptional, particularly the locally sourced lamb. Excellent breakfasts too. Staff were approachable, efficient and accommodating. We shall return.
