"Rooms outdated, in need of refurbishment"

6.0

The rooms are outdates and need refurbishing. The beach sunbeds are not free, neither is the sauna. They run shows every day in the evening until 11:00 pm and it is quite difficult to go to bed before then as the music is very loud, also the cleaners wake you up at 8:00am as they make a lot of noise on the hallway. The jacuzzi water was vey cold. The food is very good, a lot of variety and good quality. Never been to an all inclusive hotel that had such a large choice of food and with all the dishes being so good.

"Review for family holiday"

6.0

We travelled as 2 adults and 1 ten year old. We had read reviews about block 3 so were worried when we arrived and were told we were there with a view out to the road. Staff were patient when we asked if they had other rooms and the lovely porter showed us a few more but they were either a lot more expensive or worse. We had a view of the road and next door's hotel. It turned out fine as we rarely used the balcony. The room was basic. The only thing that looked new was the TV which we did not use. The balcony was tiny, there were 2 chairs for the 3 of us and very shabby. The shower screen in the bathroom was plastic and broken. The main beds were comfortable though and the room was fairly clean. The pull out bed was quite hard but my daughter can sleep anywhere! Overall basic, tired but we hardly spent any time in it so it didn't matter. Block one looked much better but I woukd hate to spend that much more money to then share all the other facilities esp the restaurants because of my opinion as below. As soon as we arrived we realised that this all inclusive experience was going to be a bit of a disappointment compared to our previous one but we were determined to make the most of it so... Food, my daughter thought it ace and ate beige food all week! We tried everything. We generally ate breakfast in the grand and lunch, dinner on the terrace. It is all buffet which is a real disappointment as you just can't all sit down as a family to eat as you're up and down getting food. It would be lovely to have one waiter service restaurant - somewhere a bit more special. The sheer numbers at the hotel and turnaround of guests getting food would just not allow it though. Don't get dressed up, it's bright as an operating theatre, noisy and chaotic. The long trousers rule for men is not really a thing. People as a rule were not dressed up. You can get a moment of calm on the terrace. Lovely views but obviously lots of people want to sit there. We always managed to get a seat if we wandered around a bit but just didnt make for a relaxing dinner experience. Food was same each day for breakfast lunch and dinner with a couple of changes. The seafood and meat options changed each day with octopus, prawns, tuna, cod but the accompaniments were much the same. You could find good food in amongst the deep fried cheese options! Plenty of fresh salad and fruit even though some tinned fruit made its way in. You can't go late for dinner or sit on the terrace beyond 9.30 which is also a shame as it is the most relaxing place, and we heard a few people commenting on how early the restaurants chuck you out. We went out one night for dinner in Budva for a change of scene as well. Pool, this was the bit I disliked the most from the point of view of stress, maybe the hotel can think how to manage this better but it is the 6am rush to put towels down only for many people to not use the beds for hours. We did not do this, basically, did not want to be that person - when we arrived at the pool it was because we wanted to use it but finding a sun lounger without a towel on it was very difficult. Shade could be a problem - whilst there were umbrellas many were not opened but not shared as the umbrellas also doubled as tables. More loungers (although I don't know where you would put them as cheek to jowl already around the pool) but definitely more shades needed please. The pools were good however, different depths for everyone. My daughter loved them. I would say there were times where there were quite rowdy adults trying to play ball games in one of the shallowest pools taking up the entire pool, which the little ones then couldn't really enjoy. Lifeguards were looking at heir phones most of the time and not the pool so fairly ineffective but really so many people in the pools it was not an issue. The inevitable music from the bar, at times noisy for gym classes but overall tolerable but don't come here for a quiet break. Lovely baby pool for those that need it. Water was clean and the garden was well maintained with some beautiful trees. Pool area probably gets a bit more wear and it showed marginally. We saw people playing tennis and basketball but did not use that service and the star camp looked more to be aimed at very young children pre school I would say. Can I recommend some older kids activities as a nice way for kids travelling with their boring parents to meet others to play with. Highly recommend Boka bay full day tour, pretty much sold everywhere at the same price so easy to use the on site tour agency, we also went to skadar lake. Lovely shorter day trip with a swim in the lake. If you like wildlife and birdwatching I would recommend booking a specific trip for that. It would be lovely to go back to explore more of the lake, otherwise you just go for a swim and lunch which was still very enjoyable and my daughter loved jumping off the boat so if she's happy... We walked into Budva, a good hour to the old town but worth it, very pretty. There's a nice beach out the back where my daughter swam whilst we sat at the bar. We got a 20euro water taxi back to bececi which was fun. The beaches are all quite pebbly / coarse sand so swim shoes are needed. We went to hotel splendid one night for a cocktail. Lovely pool area and a more relaxing music entertainment for a change. Evening entertainment was loud. If you overlook the sea and garden in block 2 and 3 it will be very loud until 11. You could escape in the block 1 paid for bar with a nice view and in the lower terrace a bit. There are a lot of smokers here however and difficult to find somewhere smoke free. We had a boogie at the entertainment a couple of nights which was not great quality but who cares you're on holiday! Drinks were fine, beer and wines were completely drinkable. Non alcoholic cocktails were a favourite of my daughter, the pina colada especially. The drinks machines and wine dispensers played up reasonably often. Just sheer numbers I guess. Bars were supposed to be open until 12 but were closed generally not much after 11 pm. We were ready for bed then but I suspect others could have carried on a bit longer. Staff were generally friendly. Apart from the lovely porter at the start no one really stood out. Bar staff women friendly, men not so. We saw the restaurant staff as helpful and as quick as they could be, to be turning tables around for the sheer numbers. So overall, should you come to Montenegro. YES it's beautiful, countryside is lovely, the coastline is so pretty. Should you come to iberostar, it's cheap for the school holidays and if you can get over the above then go for it as you do get what you paid for - it's not special but it's ok. I can't say if it is equivalent to others of the same price in the area but I suspect it is much the same.

"Difficult to recommend "

6.0

I stayed for a week at the end of July with my wife and two teenage children, our experience was mixed and I would find it hard to recommend this hotel. First impressions were not good, the hotel caters for 1700 guests, however, the grounds are not large enough to accommodate such a high number and this creates huge over crowding around the pool and surrounding garden areas. If your towel wasn't reserving a sun bed by 630am - 7am you would be lucky to get one! We used the hotel beach area which is privately operated and as a result, had to pay 40 Euros each day for 4 very basic sun beds and a parasol. This was an expense we hadn't budgeted for, however, it was quiet and well maintained and the sea was crystal clear. The rooms are compact and the shower room was tiny, however, the beds were most comfortable and the room was modern and well presented. The maid service was first class and the room was spotless. We were in block 2. The buffet restaurants offered a limited choice of dishes which became repetitive when having to eat there daily. The quality was good but all seemed very basic. This is something the hotel needs to improve upon as it isn't representative of a 4 star hotel. All inclusive drinks are average at best. Cocktails, beer and wine are all obtained from a pre mixed machine. There is a piano bar with lovely views which offers premium branded drinks but these are chargeable, all be it at a 50% discount if all inclusive. A bottle of Merlot was 8 Euros and a Coca Cola 2 Euros, so not expensive. Seemed strange though that we were all inclusive and had to pay for a better quality drink! Evening entertainment was at best average and very loud. Music was played late into the evening and getting to sleep before 11pm was difficult without ear plugs as you could hear the music and fellow guests returning to their rooms with the trademark door slam. All rather unnecessary. My wife and daughter used the spa and were impressed. Prices are quite high but well worth it. The Turkish bath and head massage were first class apparently. The staff at reception were very good, helpful and friendly. Sadly other staff and especially the beach staff were not as friendly and gave us the impression they were perhaps "anti English". This is my personal opinion and could be due to culture or a language barrier, however, there was rarely a smile and little chat, hence no tip. It wasn't universal but the bad few undid the good work of the other staff. We chartered a boat with skipper for the day which I would recommend. A great way to see the coast line, snorkel and visit the hidden coves and caves. All in all, this could be a great hotel but at present I feel appeals more to Eastern European guests and is 20 years behind the likes of Spain and the Middle East. As a result, we won't return. I was impressed though that the hotel invited feedback and genuinely seemed to take it seriously, hence my 3 star review.

"Tajna is the greatest kept secret at the Iberostar Waves Bellevue Montenegro"

10.0

Tajna is the greatest kept secret at the Iberostar Waves Bellevue Montenegro. Her care and service with the rest of her team was next to none. Being full vegetation and having a 83 year old with us we where very concerned about meals. Tejna went out of her way to identify and personally ensure we where catered for along with the excellent chiefs of this hotel. We fully recommend this excellent hotel, made even better by the caring and friendly staff for whom nothing is to much. Tajna you are credit to this Hotel

"Not 4 star"

6.0

Room was fine, but balcony furniture really old - family room. Staff in general are uninterested/not very helpful. Pool areas nice, clean, sunbeds the most uncomfortable ones i have ever had. Food is really not good. Not enough variety, bland, not very hot. Never experienced an all inclusive where we have struggled to find something to eat before. Getting a table outside is difficult but if you eat after 20:30 its easier, however getting someone to clear/set a table takes forever, the staff don’r proactively do this, you have to call someone over. Then they forget about you. The customer service at this hotel is just really lacking. Also expect long transfers from and to the airport in tivat, the road is not finished. The budva area is just one big traffic jam too. The area is welcoming more tourists than it can cope with. In general we enjoyed our holiday, but we would not return to this hotel. Kotor is a must see.

"Lovely week away"

8.0

Positives: - Location - behind a beach with a decent promenade of bars and restaurants to walk along. Also lots of water sports, we enjoyed parasailing. If you exit the top floor of block 1 there is also a tunnel to Budva, a 10-15 walk to the promenade of bars and restaurants or keep going along then you are 30-40 minutes from Budva old town, which was picturesque. - Room - was big and spacious but was unfortunately in block 3 and in desperate need of modernisation (see below). The bed was comfortable and huge, plus our two kids had a sofa bed each. There was still space to move around. -Cleanliness - our room, the communal areas, bars, restaurant, grounds and pool areas were immaculate. Staff were always cleaning and tidying. We came back to a clean and tidied room after breakfast every day. -Staff - all were very friendly and a big shout out to the lady on pancakes in the snack bar all day. She was patient and always had a smile on her face. - Food - some of the best AI food I have had. Whilst breakfast had little variation the selection was great. I found a lot of variations in the restaurants at lunch and evening. There was show cooking, a barbecue, pasta and a lovely salad bar, with different prepared salads every day. There was a good range of seafood and meats. I disagree it was repetitive, as although some meats were repeated it was prepared differently or had a different sauce. I saw beef, pork, lamb, chicken, veal, giant prawns, muscles, squid, red snapper, salmon, swordfish, hake, to name a few. Whilst there wasn’t a dedicated kids section (no chicken nuggets or fish fingers in sight) even my fussy eater got by with pizzas, plain meat and the pastas. We could not fault the food. - Gym - was a really well equipped gym for a holiday hotel. However, I feel it should open earlier and staff should ensure children are not blocking/using machines unsupervised. Drinks - much better than I thought but still hit and miss. Depends what you order but was largely as expected from AI. Negatives: - Room - this was very dated. Furniture was old and there were tears in wallpaper. There were also lots of marks from kids drawing on the surfaces, which was not expected. - Balcony - the balcony was tiny and not as advertised. You could not fit all four of us on there, there was a tiny table with just two chairs. Also, I like big windows and sliding doors. This had one small door making the room darker. I had emailed the hotel beforehand having read reviews but my request to have our room elsewhere was not accommodation. I then discussed the above with reception and they said I could not swap rooms but that I could upgrade for €1000. I did not want to do this as I had not budgeted for this in advance. This was disappointing as rooms and balconies like ours were not shown. - Sunbeds - all poolside sunbeds and parasols were taken by 7am. After missing out on poolside sunbeds the previous day I got up early to see if I could secure one but all had gone by 7am. The hotel do nothing about this and we needed shade for the kids. I had to get up 6.45 remainder of the holiday to secure beds but even then only a handful remained. The hotel need to either police this, expand the paved areas or have spare parasols. No shade in 37c heat with kids is not fun. Also, some guests had not returned to their sunbeds by 12pm, which is unfair. Families should not be having to set alarms on holidays just for a sunbed. - Beach - just a warning that it’s not owned by the hotel and all sunbeds are chargeable. I have no problem with this but there was no space for kids to just play ball or games on the beach. Water shoes needed as it’s all shingle. Restaurant - very busy, as expected, hard to get a table outside in an evening and lots of people dragging tables together from under your nose. Would be good for the hotel to seat people according to party size to stop this, it would also make dining less stressful. - Bars - all the nicest bars are not part of AI, which I don’t understand. They don’t offer anything different drinks wise so a bit strange. GENERAL: - not the hotel but due to major roadworks it took 2 hours for us to get just 15 miles from the hotel to Tivat airport. The journey to the hotel was similar. Have snacks and entertainment for the kids. - Whilst Tivat airport is definitely better than flying to Dubrovnik, the airport is tiny and nothing there aside duty free. Make sure you eat well before going and take water. Overall: The hotel was good and Montenegro was gorgeous. I would probably stay again but would avoid block 3 and consider an upgrade.

"Not a 4 star hotel"

4.0

The hotel is definitely not a 4 star and is at best an average 3 star. The rooms, common areas, restaurants and pool areas are in need of an upgrade. Food, drink and service are more in line with a 3 star hotel. In the positive side, the garden is lovely and views are great,

"Excellent"
