Bannatyne Hotel Darlington

Breakfast was good, nice staff, good location.

My room was definitely due a refresh. It had large yellow patch on ceiling possibly from a previous leak. One bedside lamp was flickering. Bathroom old, paint on walls was streaky and seemed unfinished..

The staff were very friendly on arrival and gave us an upgrade. The room was lovely and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was good. It was right in the centre of Darlington so easy to walk to bars, shops and restaurants.

It was a little bit shabby and we didn't realise the gym and spa were off site, which was a little disappointing. It was very quiet and had no atmosphere in the bar or at breakfast.

We didn't get the specials menu just the bog standard until my husband asked and we ended up with seabass for £14. Did the same to couple on next table for some reason so advice ask for specials menu.

Breakfast was super. I'd asked for poached eggs and they came fresh and just right. The location is great for a wander into town. We also had a room upgrade which was good with plenty space to spread out motorcycle gear and luggage. Shower was also well received after a very warm day in the saddle.

Unfortunately due to the extremely hot weather a fitful night's sleep occurred. The hotel does not have air conditioning. We left windows open to let a breeze into the room but this also lets traffic noise creep in too. The hotel did have a small fan in the room but it didn't really make that much difference.

It was lovely pity there wasn't a blind in bedroom
