The Samaya Ubud

The resort ticked all the boxes for me and then some. It’s a beautiful property but what makes it even more special are the staff. They’re some of the nicest people you will ever want to meet and there’s nothing that they can’t make happen. My pool villa was magnificent and the restaurant and spa are out of this world.

The property is beautiful! Well maintained and manicured. Great views of the river and neighboring rice paddies!!!

Everything was well laid out and convenient. However the gym is dated and needs new equipment.

The moment we arrived at The Samaya we could feel the tension lift. Reception staff made sure the effects of plane and taxi travel were short lived. Our pool room was set high on the hill, so we had a short walk to the Scenic Restaurant and reception. Rooms at the bottom of the hill are close to the Ayung River, the Swept Away restaurant and the spa. If you have one of the lower rooms you can choose to walk up the hill or catch a buggy, which are constantly available. The private pools are 1.8 metres deep and large enough for swimming. Our bed was very comfortable, we had plenty of storage and a separate make up area was provided. Extra water was available on request. A la carte breakfast was something to look forward to each morning, with the green Samaya special drink a highlight. All meals were delicious and served with a smile. Housekeeping was regularly performed during breakfast and the evening turn down prepared us for a solid night's sleep.

Booked for 5 nights to celebrate my 50th birthday and wanted to explore Bali. Another 5 nights we spent at Sanur Beach. This was a once in a lifetime trip and wanted 5 star accommodation and Samaya was exceptional fulfillijg my wishes with a floating breakfast and a surprise of a cake. The butler service was excellent. However our experience was slightly tainted on our last night after a very long day getting up at 2am to venture up Mt Batur of which being an intimate hotel all staff knew what a long day it was for us. We returned after dinner wantung an early night to find the ac unit streaming with water which was close to electrics. It appeared that the housekeeping had seen this as the tea tray had been moved but we reported it and they did not seem to know about the issue. An engineer came out and said he had fixed it but as we got into bed it started again. Reception could only move us which was not that easy as had to get a cart to get us down the hill in nightwear leaving our belongings behind. Check out next morning no one acknowledged the problem until we mentioned it and no empathy or indication they would get management to contact us. We duly reported the incident to our travel rep the next day who was due to visit Samaya rhe following day and would speak to the manager who was new to the role. We hears nothing, so emailed Samaya 2 days later and manager finally responded as we were at the airport to return to the UK saying this had not been brought to his attention until my email. I find this hard to believe as it's only a handful of villas and surely incident reports would be made. He offered us a free night and treatment but pointless as we were going home and potentially may never return to Bali to redeem the offer. We accept that things go wrong but it's the acknowledgement and resolve that speaks volume especially for a 5 star establishment it makes us wonder what have happened if the villas were all occupied. Water dripping and mix of electrics is not a good way to try and put up with the issue and lack of regard whilst checking out was disappointing.

This has honestly been the best hospitality service I have ever encountered, the rest does not even come close. Literally everyone at The Samaya has one mission: to make your stay as memorable as possible, this includes everything that happens prior to your reservation as well. They give you this overwhelming feeling that only one thing matters, and that is you. Often times it made me feel that we were the only other people there, while we clearly weren’t. Special thanks to Ayu and Widyanti for organizing everything and making sure everything went exactly as planned. To Adi, for meeting our requests and capturing these moments beautifully by lens. To anyone out there, and especially people who are looking to celebrate, romantically surprise, plan a honeymoon, or like me propose to your partner, look no further, everyone at The Samaya are professionals. Make sure to book the Candle Light dinner, and your partner will have a memory to treasure forever.

Stayed for six nights celebrating our 20th anniversary. We had a villa that had seen better days. Crumbling plaster in the villa, dilapidated very noisy old A/C unit that we had to have engineering come out to fix (it wasn’t fixable - we resorted to pulling cooler air through the secondary unit installed in the bathroom area). The staff were all incredibly friendly and approachable, they can’t be faulted here. Bed linens were tired and grey, definitely not luxury and looked like they should have been exchanged two years ago. Would recommend staying here only if you have no other options in the area and are desperate to spend extended time in the Ubud area

This is an amazing hotel where the staff treat you like family. The location is in the jungle and gives you an exceptional experience of Ubud. The food at the restaurants is some of the best I have tasted. We also enjoyed staying in the private villas, the spa facilities and afternoon tea. Amazing hotel!

Literally everything. The location is ideal, with just enough distance from the centre while maintaining the peace and calm of nature

I would simply say it is a heavenly beautiful. The best environment to connect with nature and find peace and serenity. Very well designed, wonderful staff and service.
