Ivy House Country Hotel

Room was ok nothing special; wi-fi was good so able to work. Bit of a lack of sockets when pluging in laptop, chargers, etc. none by the bed. Tea and coffee in the room with small milk, no fridge. Location means that it was very quiet in the evening, and bed was comfortable. Plently of parking spaces. Receptionist was polite but did not normally cover the shift for evening arrivals.

Hotel - restaurant shut / not available; no breakfast option available. Pot-holed un-illuminated country access road / driveway. Receptionist had no suggestion for meal deliveries and not sure if they did deliver but thought likley - uber eats or similar but no menus, sugested drive out to local pubs, Mini Tesco and petrol station located at the end of the road. Room was big enough, Bathroom was a bit old / dated with over bath fixed shower head. Radiators were cold late in the evening like the main heating had gone off, baking in the morning when they were on full. Reception was shut when leaving at 0730 so unable to leave feedback.

What an amazing hotel. The rooms are well furnished, clean and spacious. Beautiful gardens to wander in or just sit and relax. Less than 10 minute easy walk along a footpath to the broad and nearest restaurant or oulton broad south rail station. 10 minutes walk in the other direction gets you to carlton marshes nature reserve with lovely walks and a visitor centre with cafe. Short drive to wonderful beaches and other gorgeous locations. The hotel has all the facilities for a wedding venue as well, delightful renovated barn and a large hall with its own bar and kitchen. The staff are so helpful and friendly and can’t do enough to make you feel welcome. Oh and the breakfast !!!! Absolutely delicious !!!!! Can’t wait to go back, one of the nicest places I have stayed in.

Wish it had its own restaurant but it is only a short walk, or an even shorter drive to other eating places

Surroundings

No food or snacks not even for breakfast at any extra cost. Have been coming to the ivy for manyyears but since the takeover is not the same and will not be going back.

An amazing location. Beautiful buildings, close to amenities. Staff trying to make up for lack of facilities with openess.

Not made aware no facilities for food available when booking. This is a room only provision. Nothing on site except bar. Room was tired and needed maintenance. Bed uncomfortable. A disappointing experience that should and could have been much better.

We really enjoyed the location. We love the countryside

We found the beds very uncomfortable. Also we walked down the lane to get some breakfast at Tesco and I’m guessing the lady lived on the farm? But she demanded to know if we were staying in the hotel and had a go at us claiming it was a private lane. She was very very rude to me and my wife. Really dissatisfied with being treated in such a manner

Nice large room, lovely building and staff were really friendly.
