Fredrick's Hotel & Spa

It was a night where you have to laugh because nothing went well. With the exception of the member of staff on reception, who was very helpful and polite.

The hotel seemed a little 1970s dated in style upon arrival but that was fine in principle. The door did not lock properly. I had to prop a chair against it. There was no water and the fridge was dirty. The pillows are so flat they should be non-existent, the bed mattresses are hard but I like that, but the biggest issue I have is a large old-style school bell next to the bed, that turns out to be a fire alarm, that first went off at 3am. It went off again half an hour later and so on. I repeatedly got up along with other confused guests to go to the car park. No one knew what to do. It was not clear. It was not restful. I later wore noise cancelling headphones and attempted to ignore it. In the light of the morning I could see that the room was not very clean. There was a bottle of cheap window and glass cleaner left on the side in the bathroom. When using the sink to clean my teeth, it was so unclean and blocked that it filled with water, the shower did not spray down but out at the sides, soaking the bathroom in scalding hot water, I could not get a cold tap to work and the bath would not plug up so I could not use any of that. There were plastic bits of rubbish next to the bin. There was limescale all over the bathroom floor, on the taps and so on. There were holes in the thinning white towels. The bedroom carpet had several stains but also lots of bits of fluff in a clear sign that it had not been hoovered for a while. It was all just a bit disconcerting so I decided not to try the pool or the food. I wouldn't advise anyone to stay here.

Welcoming, friendly and very helpful staff’ both at Reception and in the restaurant. A roomy, well equipped and comfortable room with small but well designed and equipped bathroom making the most of restricted space. Lovely comfortable mattress, and great shower! Nice restaurant ambience. Pity about the limited dinner menu ( burger overload - but perhaps that is my age/ generation prejudice showing! ) . Nonetheless, what we had was good quality . A great breakfast, with ample choice and high quality. Lovely, well tended surrounding gardens; and, of course, adjoining Spa facilities.

Torn and ripped strip of wall paper off wall above and behind the bed. This had obviously been done some time previously and not remedied. Tired and untidy looking bed base, spoiling the otherwise quality look of the room. Absence of programme choice on the TV . Staff member was unable to find ITV news, for example. Above all, the sounding of the fire alarm at 2.00 a.m. and the absence of any announcement or information subsequently. A false alarm , happily. But a proper safety procedure for guests needs to be lmplemented as a matter of priority.

I liked it is local so east to get to.

I had to wait 30 minutes to check in as no staff around. Bedroom was not very clean.

The spa and the incredible pool and their more than perfect problem solving methods.

Good location, amazing friendly Staff, lovely pool.

Needs modernising, decoration was very weathered and grubby in some parts. My room had some very stained ceilings and floors. Tiles in bathroom floor were cracked and not secure.
