"A Lovely 'Olde Worlde' Stay"

10.0

Being a listed building, the guesthouse has no lift so be prepared for stairs. In addition, our room was on the top floor so mind the sloping ceiling. On the same floor we shared the bathroom facilities with another room, although there are ‘en suite' rooms available. The guesthouse doesn't provide meals, but there are many eateries in the area to suit all tastes. Bearing the foregoing in mind, the location was excellent for the Edinburgh Fringe - our street was blocked off from traffic for the event so we were right in the heart of the action - and also for local attractions, including the stunning Edinburgh Castle, and for transportation links for around the city and including Edinburgh Airport. In addition, there are only 9 rooms so the guesthouse was ultra-cosy. Tod, the concierge, is especially humorous, courteous and on hand to answer any query, including about the local history. This was our first visit to Edinburgh and we found the city truly enchanting, with the Edinburgh Guest House a warm and inviting establishment. It was filled to capacity at the time of our stay, which should tell you, and Tod has graciously offered a discount on our next visit. Please consider the Edinburgh Town House for your own visit!

"Great Central Location...Lots of stairs"

6.0

Potential Guests need to be aware there are three full flights of stairs from entry to guest house(located above a business), and then one or two more set of stairs to the rooms. Manager is not always on presence so you need to call him ahead of time to arrange meeting him there. He will help with luggage (pack light!!) . There is no breakfast served. The nearby breakfast start closer to 9 am! late for America standard. We loved the Badger hotel for breakfast!

"Nice and easy for the first night, except..."

8.0

First off, I didn't meet any staff due to limited staffed check-in hours. I'm sure they're great people. I arrived after 7 pm on a Sunday, so no one was there to notice when I tried to open Room 10 because that's what my email said. Most people would've noticed the tag on the key set said Room 1. (Both are located next to the reception desk like the email said.) You may wonder how I got my keys. That's not a problem actually. They'll email you instructions. The room was small but good enough for the purpose. I think it was a rolling bed though, weird. Everything, including the bathroom, was well clean. I wish the handwash sink were deeper though. There's no way to wash your hands without being in constant contact with the bottom, so shallow it is and so low the faucet. Ugh. At least it's one faucet, not two like most British places.

"Another fine stay"

10.0

Having stayed here two years ago I expected a certain level and it did not disappoint. The location is great just off a busy street with plenty of places to eat and drink. The room is quaint and clean and surprisingly large ...for a UK hotel. The only caution is that it is up 40 steps (no elevator) so definitely take a deep breath before you start

"Convenient and afficient"

8.0

Two night stay. I arrived after reception had left and left early. Instructions were clear and helpful. The room was small but that was what I had been expecting. If you just want a clean efficient base in the New Town at a relatively reasonable price, this is a good option

"Great location"

8.0

Great location right in the New Town. Clean and functional. Smallest bathroom sink I have ever seen - but it served its purpose well. Access was difficult though, with an interphone and 3 flights of stairs up (no help with bags). I arrived around 11 am and staff answered the interphone and was kind enough to let me in (check-in is normally at 3pm). My single room was right off the entrance hall, so it was noisy at times. Also, the pub on North Castle Street got loud after 9pm (until the wee hours on weekend). I guess a room at the back would have been quieter. In any case, location is unbeatable!

"The attic"

8.0

I would not recommend the attic rooms. My husband is 6ft 3 ins and could not stand up properly, and the same applies to the bathroom. Approximately 84 steps from the front door to the bedroom. Otherwise very clean , central and staff pleasant. Would not recommend attic rooms
