Hacienda Puerta del Cielo Eco Lodge & Spa

This is the best hotel we have ever been to. It is designed, built, and operated by the owner JC Espinoza, an accomplished architect for his clients. The view is simply phenomenal overlooking volcano Masaya which had a minor eruption on Dec 22, 2024. The hotel also overlooks lake Masaya, an old volcano crater. During our 4 night stay, we were practically the only guests there. So, we had the whole villa and staff to ourselves. Road access to this hotel is rural. Best to have a local guide or ask hotel for pick up. Food is simple and local not fine dining. No buffets. Activities include star grazing at night and playing with the pet cow. Side trip to the historical city Granada is highly recommended. This hotel is simply superior to the $650 CDN per night one we stayed in Costa Rica.

This is one of the most unique hotels I have ever stayed at. It is essentially a villa owned and operated by JC Espinoza, an accomplished architect who built this place for entertaining his clients. The hotel overlooks the volcano Masaya which had a minor eruption on Dec 22, 2024. It also overlooks the lake Masaya which, in itself, is an old volcano crater. The view and wildlife are simply amazing. This hotel is tucked away up in the mountains. Access road (which is not paved) is a bit tricky and bumpy. Better to have 4x4 vehicles but not big pick-up trucks as possibility exists that larger trucks would no be able to get through tight mountain passes. If in doubt, local guide is recommended. For several nights, we were the only guests there (out of 8 rooms available). All staff are extremely friendly and we felt it's own villa completed with own staff including chef, groundskeeper, waiter, who stay here in the hotel. Food is mostly local and simple. It is cook to order. Meals are scheduled based on guests preference. All meals are a la cart and no buffet. Because we were the only guests there, the chef essentially cooked for us and rest of the staff. To be realistic, please do not expect fine dining since this is simply not that type of resort. Wifi is available in public areas and is excellent. This is why I am typing this review now while overlooking smoke smouldering out of the volcano. This hotel is also not far from the historical town Granada (about 45 min) This 500 years old establishment is worth a day trip visit. Although there aren't many activities in the hotel, star grazing is amazing, so is playing with the cow. All is all, our stay has so far been quite an experience and I recommend anyone who are interested in this type of tranquility. I shall miss this place.

Charming place. Very comfortable. Super views especially at sunset. Fabulous staff and JC was great host. Slightly out of the way but worth the effort. Over all, it was a very relaxing place. See photos of views from room. Highly recommend.

Hacienda!! This place is a dream! It is so peaceful and beautiful there. I loved every moment I spent in this paradise. The views are incredible. The staff, top notch. The owner, JC, was so nice and warm. He made sure that we were taken care of and never taken advantage of. He guided us step by step on how to get to the property. Once there, he made sure we were comfortable and happy. Francisco, who works there, was the nicest man! I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place and the food was terrific! If you’re looking for peace and beauty emerged in local culture, this is the spot!

I had the best time at Hacienda! All the staff were so lovely and helpful and went over and above to make sure I had everything I needed, and helped arrange all my transport. The views are absolutely beautiful and I will miss having my breakfast looking out over the lagoon. Can’t recommend this hotel enough.

It's difficult to come there. I came from Managua by Toyota Yaris and it was quite ok if you drive carefully. But the way from another side on next day was awful. My car was stuck on the forest road and i crashed bumper. So, go there only from the Managua side if you don't have a SUV

My partner and I was able to have the whole resort to ourselves. We came during an off season and was pure lucky. We stayed in the Honeymoon suite and absolutely loved it. The pool steps was right at the entrance of our room. The food was really good and the atmosphere and views were amazing. We also took a couple tours; Catarina and Granada., and opted for the massages. Leaving the resort is definitely worth the trip to experience the culture. The staff also took fantastic care of us and the owner is more then helpful and very communicative. We highly recommend staying here.

The pillows didn't work for me, but my partner loved the. Just personal preference.

The Hacienda's commitment to eco-friendliness was truly commendable. Locally sourced materials and vibrant murals depicting Nicaraguan life added to its unique charm. The owner's dedication to sustainability was evident in every aspect of the Hacienda. Their attentive service and the staff's efforts to make our stay perfect were the cherry on top of this eco-friendly paradise. The dining experience at Hacienda Puerta del Cielo was equally delightful. We savored delicious meals made from locally sourced, farm-to-table ingredients. From traditional Nicaraguan dishes like jalapeño chicken to international options like chicken tenders, there was something to please every palate. It was truly one of the best meals we had during our time in Nicaragua. Hacienda Puerta del Cielo Eco Spa is a hidden gem that exceeded all expectations. Its stunning location, luxurious accommodations, and warm hospitality make it the perfect retreat for travelers seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. We feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered this paradise and can't wait to return for another unforgettable stay. If you're looking fora romantic getaway I highly recommend the Honeymoon Suite. We did not stay here but had a chance to see it as it was when we where there. From the Jacuzzi tub to the romantic outdoor shower, every detail was thoughtfully designed. The private deck, complete with hammocks and deck chairs, offered the perfect spot to unwind and take in the stunning vistas and it gives you direct, private access to the pool.
