Hacienda Puerta del Cielo Eco Lodge & Spa

Fantastic, one of a kind place. Cool place made out of local and natural materials. Excellent views, owner, and staff. Staff was very helpful in arranging tours and transformation. Food was excellent. Owner went out his way to find fresh fish to make a local dish that wasn't on the menu. Recommend visiting if you are in Nicaragua.

From the moment we arrived at the airport, we were treated with warmth and hospitality from the staff of the Hacienda. We booked a vacation package to celebrate our honeymoon, which included several day trips to surrounding sites, each one unique and beautiful. My favorite day was the excursion to Apoyo Lagoon, where we got to swim in the clear, turquoise waters and relax on floating wooden platforms. Because of recent activity at Masaya volcano, our excursion was canceled, but Hacienda staff came to the rescue, providing us with an impromptu evening hike to Masaya Lagoon instead. Our driver was extremely friendly, punctual, kind, and always smiling! The Hacienda is quiet, surrounded by the sounds of birds and other wildlife. Each morning, you wake up to coffee and the view of dozens of birds rising on the warm thermals in the canyon below. At night, you swing in the hammocks, listening to the sounds of geckos squeak and crickets chirp. My new spouse and I had a great experience getting to know each other better, as well as the staff, and other guests. It was a beautiful start to our marriage and I’m happy we chose Hacienda Puerto del Cielo! Ps. Special thanks to JC and Chico para todo! You guys are awesome!

Where to begin?! My wife and I spent 6 days here for our honeymoon and we have no regrets about doing so. Setting: The Hacienda is perched on a secluded overlook of the Masaya Volcano and lagoon providing a beautiful view around the clock. The Hacienda is replete with comfy hammocks, quiet nooks, and sunny poolside lounges. Owner & Staff: JC (the owner) is an entertaining and gracious host. He was always checking in on us and helping to assure we were having a good time. We spent several nights trading stories and histories over glasses of rum. His staff were attentive and helpful as well. Special consideration goes to Chico for going above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Amenities: The rooms were clean and we'll kept. We were very comfortable the entirety of our stay. The food was fresh and delicious (definitely get the pancakes for breakfast at least once!). Overall our stay was one my wife and I won't forget. We are already talking about a return trip in the future (which is really the best review of all).

Our experience was incredible! JC and his team were wonderful! They coordinated lovely touring excursions, the meals were excellent, and they made sure we had everything we needed while staying there. The view was amazing, the rooms and pool beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place with an outstanding view; this is it! We hope to return again.

A taxi drive of about 75-90 minutes brings you for around 50 USD from the international airport to this rather remote place. The last part of the travel is a rather bumpy 1,5 km road but you forget everything when you arrive at the terrace in the hacienda and see the view of the volcanoes. Amazing! The rooms are cozy with a comfortable hammock and outside rocking chairs. The owner JC is a great, flexible and problem-solving host with wonderful stories. He cares about his guests supported by his sweet staff. Meals are ok. We made nice trips to the volcano rim, hiked to the village and around the lake. Suggestions for improvement: 1) internet was sometimes weak and sometimes ok, 2) this was the only hotel in Nicaragua where we had to pay for water (and you cannot drink the tap water in Nicaragua), 3) no water cooker/fridge in the room, and 4) also compared to other hotels the tours/taxi drives offered are on the expensive side. Pure magic! The location, the room, the hospitality, and the food was dreamy. The PERFECT destination for a quiet getaway with a loved one or friends. I will always cherish how well JC, Pablo, Isabel and Francisco took care of us.
