The Barleycorn

Extremely friendly and very welcoming. The room was spotless and comfortable. The Landlord and landlady could not have been more accommodating. A gorgeous roaring wood burner and a good selection of real ales and home cooked food made my stay. Very dog friendly.

We had an early start for work and Tom took the time to make us a bacon sandwich to take away and even bought it to our room at 7 am! Gent

Very quiet location, no facilities. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed. Plenty of tea etc and toiletries supplied. The staff were pleasent. The breakfast was ok, orange juice, mug of tea, full English, toast and butter.

The car parking is limited. The entrance to accommodation was quite badly lit and a hose was trailed across to the other side which is a trip hazard. No dining area open so we ate in the bar. Not much choice in wine and we settled for very overpriced bottle of average quality. The meal was edible but very expensive for what it was. Whitebait starter was disappointing. I did think the two dogs that were roaming should have been kept off of the bar. They were well behaved though. Generally the standards need to improve if this pub is to survive.

However we were able to check in early, the reception wasn't very friendly. No further information about breakfast or any other e.g. regarding wifi (which wasn't available in in the end) The headboard of the bed had stains on and cobwebs were present in the bathroom. When it came to Sunday morning breakfast was only available till 9.30am which is a little early and, would we have known, would have attended. All in all not a great experience and not a great advert..
