"Good experience overall"

This was a very good ryokan experience. Positives were the location in the heart of Takayama, the people were very kind and welcoming and the food was amazing. I did regret that the sushi restaurant was not available our second night there. You do get the authentic experience of sleeping on the tatami floors and the authentic Japanese yukata and sleep wear. The downsides were it is large for a ryokan so has a bit more of a hotel feel, overall decor feels tired and no real memorable architectural detail, servicing of rooms was minimal, while they put your beds out and take them down they don’t empty the garbage or refresh your towels. For the price these are details that should not be missed ….also TV here has no English stations…. Not major but would be nice and very few outlets for charging ….while I did want an authentic experience ….in todays world travelers have a lot of gadgets to charge and this was a problem

A very good place and a good value but in need of updating and refurbishment. Liked · Great staff who could not do enough for you. The location is perfect. Food for dinner was delicious, but the service was very rushed and there were several miscommunications with the staff. breakfast was good but not great. Lots of amenities in the room. The lobby. The holiday decorations and the outside terrace were lovely. Super clean. The free coffee, tea, soft drinks, and raman in the lobby were a wonderful touch. Location is perfect and veiw from the room was wonderful. Disliked · Decor was very dated in the room and somewhat depressing. Toilet paper and towels were both terrible; they were cheap and awful. Such a shame for such a nice place to cut corners on a minor but important detail. Little or no storage in the room except for some hangers.

The traditional accommodation, the friendly attentive staff. We loved it all..the kaiseki dinner, the Japanese style western breakfast and the views around the ryokan were stunning.

"Fantastic but……."

Fantastic location, wonderful staff and the best Japanese food we have had on this trip. But - towels so thin I would only use as cleaning rags - the worst toilet paper and hand towels I have ever used - rooms are old but not a deal breaker So much to love.

"Great family memories"

Our stay was above and beyond our expectations. Amazing service food and atmosphere. The staff was some of the best I've ever expierence. The food was well presented and tasted so good. Our family has memories from this experience that we will never forget.
