Honjin Hiranoya Bekkan

I cannot recommend this ryokan enough!! We stayed for two nights end of March/start of April. The staff were so friendly and patient, taking time to explain aspects of the hotel, onsen, and how to wear the traditional clothes. They made the evening meal and breakfast so accessible to foreigners by explaining each element, and a menu in English also helped! The new ladies onsen nextdoor allows you try different onsen locations, and I would really recommend a massage! I lucked out by going over at 3pm and had the onsen to myself! You will leave feeling so relaxed and well taken care of! We luckily had a room with river views which was stunning and a balcony to enjoy a cup of tea from and watch the people below. What an amazing way to unwind from the travel and rushing around the big city. The walks around the town are easy to get to from this hotel, and their shuttle service to and from the station is so helpful, and the drivers are so friendly!! We absolutely loved our stay, and it has rejuvenated us for our onward travel. Thank you so much to all the staff!

Woderful place for onsen .

From the welcome book of the gong to the departing bow from the staff this hotel had so much promise but that’s kinda where it ended. Tatami mats and the sleeping style were lovely but when half the guests can where shoes it kind of defeats the purpose. Despite eating three meals in the hotel not once did we get allocated a window seat. Poor form. As usual carry your own bags to your room. Breakfast was a bit of a joke with its instructions written out on paper. Our room had a lovely view. Quiet location. Nice aspect. Big deal done providing you with some cute free socks but each subsequent day they were all brown. Great live music in the ground floor (music duo) from the Philippines. They were the best.

Lovely hotel within walking distance of the old town. The staff are excellent and super helpful. I used the spa one afternoon and had it to myself. We had a room with a view of the river. Highly recommend if staying in Takayama.

Our group of 6 stayed here in February 2024. We stayed for several nights in the Japanese-style rooms with futons on tatami mats. This ryokan was located about 10-15 minutes away from Takayama Station and was easily accessible on foot even when we were dragging our luggage along. If walking's not your thing, the ryokan also has a shuttle service available, though we didn't take this up and can't confirm if it's a paid service or not. Apart from its proximity to Takayama Station, the ryokan is also mere minutes away from the Old Town area of Takayama, making it extremely accessible as a base of operations. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the ryokan staff who promptly attended to our check in while serving up hot tea and a welcome dessert. The staff also walked us to our rooms while explaining how everything worked. The rooms were spacious and clean. The public bath areas were also well-maintained and pleasant to use. Possibly the only area of improvement would be the bedding, as the futons were generally thin and provided little to no cushioning against the floor. The pillows were also unfortunately rather flat and not fluffy, and generally required some propping up to provide any sort of support. On the whole, we enjoyed our experience and would be glad to stay here again if we were to return to Takayama.

The hotel service was very fine. Staffs are very friendly. Hotel restaurant was very good the Japanese style breakfast was excellent. The room is a bit small but it was clean and convenient to upstairs hot spring. Location is good. Hotel shuttle bus made our stay much easier. Thanks to all the hard work.

Amazing stay. Service is excellent, especially the shuttle service between the hotel and the train station. The staff are so obliging. Location is good as it is within walking distance to the old town and most restaurants/cafes and shops.

The staff is incredible. Very courteous and helpful. The location is in walking distance to attractions. The staff made me feel welcomed. I highly recommend this establishment.
