The Crown at Playhatch

This inn with a few rooms is handily placed for Reading and the A4. We stayed there to break up a long journey from Devon to Norfolk. Arrived quite late following chaos on the motorway. Friendly greeting. Disabled friendly room, with a choice of an alternative. Fairly minor grouse; one of the bedside lights didn't work. I can live with that. Food interesting. My wife's portion of pork schnitzel was gargantuan; my basil risotto while pleasant enough didn't taste very much of basil. Pudding (chocolate torte) not really worth the bother. Hearty breakfast although we had to wait for it. Best breakfast coffee I have had in a hotel for a long time. Would happily stay there again.

It's a pub with small rooms out the back . Staff are excellent . The manageress deserve a mention very helpful booked cabs for us and aways very chatty . Best English breakfast

Great place to stay, Superb food and service, cheerful, helpful, friendly staff. Only stayed 2 nights but will be back.

Have stayed here before. Great base to work in Reading and so much more character than a chain hotel.

Different to a normal hotel as the accommodation is within a converted building. Really nice and will stay again.

A comfortable traditional English retreat . Excellent Managnent and professional and very mannerly attentive staff . Excellent food and attention to detail in service and decor .

Had a very comfortable stat in hotel, room was very spacious and quiet - had all the facilities required for a good stay. Breakfast was very good and service excellent. Would recommend hotel to family and friends.

Lovely hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, our room was a lovely space with comfy bed. We had food in the restaurant which was fantastic!
