SBH Taro Beach Hotel

I’m currently sat in the Bar Area it’s 21.32 and it’s the most depressing New Year’s Eve I have spent in the Canary Islands. The entertainment for tonight is a DJ that doesn’t speak so it’s a glorified Spotify. One woman even complained the music was too loud and they turned it down 🤣🤣🤣. No decorations , party poppers just so flat and we left at 21.45 upset that NYE was so awlful and it ruined our 5th Anniversary The bar only ever has two behind serving so don’t bet on getting served too quickly with poor quality spirits and wines. We have also been told if we want to drink after 00.00 it’s an extra 25€ I mean that’s just cheap. Food tonight was excellent though. So what about the rest of the hotel , we were initially given a Junior Suite …. The view from our terrace was of the stairs , we asked for a room change and we were given a sea view. Thank you. The food in general is repetitive and based pork. If you like meatballs bingo you will be happy. The rooms are tired but clean. There’s a habit of leaving plastic trays around so people can leave their rubbish , that’s great but attracts vermin and insects yes cockroaches (as we found out) as people also leave discarded food in these baskets that they have smuggled out of the restaurant. If it wasn’t for the kindness of the staff it would be a 1* they are great. Be honest you are not a 4* maybe once but not now. We bought the holiday via Thomas Cook , no rep arrived over the week , you should hang you head in shame for selling this holiday - goto Jet2 from now one is my advice never had a bad experience from them. This was our only holiday of the year gutted.

I booked a room at the Taro for a week at the end of Sept, I am 62 years old and my first solo holiday. I picked Taro as it seemed quiter than the others in the SBH group. When I arrived, I went to reception to book in and a blond woman maybe in her late 40's early 50's, came to the desk looking rather unfriendly. I told her that I would like to book in, her abrupt reply was "No you can't we are fully booked" you can image my shock. She told me to take a taxi to another resort. "You can stay there". So I was bundled off to another resort which was unsuitable for me called SBH Costa Calma Beach. Terrible first day, I will put a review regarding SBH Coast Calma on their page. Very unfreindly, she really didn't care! Also Thomas Cook should have informed me of this and they didn't.

Please don’t listen to the awful reviews , I honestly think these people must be in a different hotel ! We had a gorgeous room , more like an apartment , beautiful views , very quiet . All the staff work really hard , all day long , always cleaning etc . Food was great , different choices every night , but also some of the same things which were keen favourites anyway. Everything seemed fresh , salads etc . Location is t right on the beach , which is so perfect . We saw no ants , no cockroaches to any areas that were dirty , as I said before I think some people were in the wrong hotel , I really don’t understand some of the reviews . I was so worried about going , and once there my mind was put at rest straight away . Costa calma is a lovely quiet area , perfect for beach lovers , and a few shops around to get your basics and souvenirs .

Where do I even start? This hotel has the audacity to advertise itself as 4-star, but in reality it’s barely scraping a 1-star standard. My two-week stay here was a catalogue of disasters that completely ruined what should have been a relaxing holiday. On arrival, I was left waiting over two hours just to get a room. When I finally did, it turned out to be the wrong one, and then I was moved to the other side of the hotel with zero help from staff to carry luggage. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the trip. The rooms are old, dated and filthy. Housekeeping consists of making the bed and nothing more — no cleaning, no attention to detail. The air conditioning was a joke: either not working properly or rattling so loudly it was impossible to sleep. And no kettle in the room either — unless you enjoy dragging yourself down to the restaurant every time you want a coffee. As for cleanliness across the hotel? Absolutely appalling. Ant infestations, sewage issues, a pool that never looked cleaned once in 2 weeks, and a sun lounge area that was cleaned only once during the entire stay. Sun loungers are so limited that people were fighting over them, and the ones available were old, broken, and beyond tired. The food? Repetitive, bland, and boring — the same thing day in, day out. Entertainment? Dreadful. I’ve seen better performances at a village pub quiz. Staff? Utterly unhelpful, dismissive, and uninterested in solving any problems. Honestly, this hotel is a complete scam. It is not a 4-star by any stretch of the imagination, and selling it as such is misleading at best. My holiday was completely ruined by staying here, and I would strongly warn anyone considering this place to look elsewhere unless you want to waste your money and patience. Avoid at all costs.
