Royal Hotel

I visited Battambang for 2-3 days in July 2016 and I stayed in Royal Hotel. What I liked about this hotel was that it was a very convenient location, being located less than a 5 minutes walk away from the Central Market and Night Market as well as the Mekong Bus office where bus pickups and drop offs are. That is, no need to take a tuk tuk to and from the hotel. The staff are also friendly. When i checked in, they had a good and welcoming attitude, helped me bring my luggage up the 2 flights of stairs up to my room, and explained to me what I needed to know about my room (e.g. wifi password, etc). They were also helpful in helping me arrange one-day and half-day tours when I requested it. However, the hotel itself is of so-so quality. It doesn't have an elevator so you would have to climb up and down the stairs every time you exit and enter the hotel -- not good if you stay in a higher floor. The room was quite okay, but I didnt really enjoy that the bathroom lacked a bathtub or shower room -- the bathing area was located directly adjacent to the toilet bowl. They also don't provide shower gel or shampoo -- only bars of soap. Lastly, the power sockets are located in inconvenient locations away from tables / desks/ working areas. Nonetheless, if you're willing to bear with such inconveniences, then I would recommend this hotel based on its location and service.

Bearing in mind that reviews are personal and subjective...Pros: Excellent staff, clean room. Cons: Older hotel in less than desirable neighbourhood, poor room lighting for reading, lack of power outlets to charge electronics, unreliable wifi, no separate shower stall just a shower head in the middle of the small bathroom, minuscule sink, breakfast limited but good muesli. We are a couple in our fifties.

The Royal Hotel provided free pickup from the Boat Terminal, which was very handy. The hotel itself is a bit dated, but provided eyerything needed - rhe bed was comfortable, the air con woking, the room quite big. There is no elevator, but staff helped with the luggage. The bathroom has an interesting setup in that the shower isn't seperated from the rest of the bathroom, therefore the whole bathroom was flooded after a shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful with onward bookings.

Battambang was a nice change from Siem Reap . Enjoy the people, small restaurants and slower pace for a couple of days. There really is no big time sightseeing. The riverboat trip (8.5 hours/dry season) from Siem Reap was a highlight of my two weeks in Cambodia. It is a rustic experience not for the pampered but a photographic opportunity not to be missed. We loved sitting in front of the Royal Hotel just chatting with the hotel owners.

Nice stay in this hotel. I don't really remember it as I do have to write a review I'll be nice and say it this way : nice place to stay

We stayed at the Royal on a Saturday night and there was a very loud party in the bar across the road. The hotel staff were very apologetic and found us their one remaining room at the back when we asked to move. Rooms very comfortable and excellent coffee at breakfast. Also, very helpful staff sorting out bus tickets etc

Spacious room, very comfortable bed, functional badroom, capable A/C and ceiling fan, very helpfull manager, moderate motivated staff :-). All considered great value for money.

The staff are what makes this hotel good to stay in, They are friendly, welcoming and very helpful, over and beyond what many places offer their guests. The hotel could do with a tin of paint or two but the rooms are comfortable and a good size.

I stayed here for two nights. The hotel is by the central market and walking distance to restaurants. Rooms are average. Staff is excellent. AC and WiFi worked fine. No separate shower so there is water all over the bathroom. Make sure to wear the provided rubber shoes so you don't slip. Breakfast is extremely slow (15-30 minutes AFTER you order), so you might want to skip that part of a reservation plan. No elevator, so if stairs are a problem be forewarned. All rooms are at least 1 floor above the street level and the eating area/roof restaurant is on the top floor.

Very friendly staff and very helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again.
