Dartington Hall

The location is exceptionally peaceful. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a great breakfast included and plenty of dining options on site. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The room was certainly warm enough and I was able to turn the radiators down.

My room was very small, although the bathroom was a fair size. But also the water in the shower took a long time to drain, although the staff explained that the plumbing was quite old. The bed wasn’t uncomfortable, but I could feel the mattress springs.

The location was perfect for a one night stay so that we could attend a local function.

Would have liked a longer stay !! will definitely be returning so we can enjoy the surroundings in a more relaxed way. The one negative that we experienced was the very necessary complications via email after we paid our initial invoice and many unnecessary conversations about our booking and extra charges attempted to be applied on arrival saying we had only paid deposits for the single rooms for which was exactly what we booked and were aware of the particular limitations with a shared bathroom. However was perfect for two ladies sharing and the benefit of separate shower room and WC with our own keys and literally only a metre or so away from our room doors. The details on line were conflicting also with regard to the inclusion of breakfast or not -prices which varied at Dartington Hall compared to the Booking.Com site. This needs updating to be consistent within the businesses.

The environment

Room was small

Quiet, full of old world charm free from the chaos of modern life.

It's a beautiful old set of buildings (the Great Hall is 500-600 years old!). This means a bit of flex is required in terms of shower power or speed to hot water or ability to have the exactly right temperature in you room at all times. But it is so worth it - the people are lovely and the place is stunning and the history of its progressive activities over 100 years (or at least 75 years - the last 25 less so as various bits of its education have closed down) is fantastic and inspiring. The beauty of the gardens and your own Barn Cinema right there (with a magnificent 25% discount if you are staying!). Good breakfast and a lovely healthy/delicious/organic Green Table cafe up the road 30 seconds and several other food/drinks venues. And the lovely pub in the quadrangle. And absolutely stunning river, field, lane and woodland walks and bathing if you are brave. And the staff really are friendly and good people. And the trees....oh the trees, such beauties.

We sadly hadn't realized that the cost with booking.com did not include breakfast .The mattress was very soft . The television signal was hopeless and not able to watch it. would have appreciated a replacement toilet roll on the first day.
