Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco

I would never stay at this hotel again. The room I had was very noisy. I could clearly hear conversations from people walking by and from the staff closing the restaurant at night. And, there was no water in our room the second morning of our stay. And, to top it off, you cannot flush toilet paper and instead have to put it in the garbage can. When I checked out they asked about my stay. I told them about the room noise and the clerk said the hotel would contact me about this. Four days later and I still haven’t heard from them. To be fair, the breakfast was good.

Greeted with a friendly front desk staff. Made it super easy to get on with our day. We arrived early, but was able to get a room. Rooms were spacious, clean. The views of the countryside was gorgeous. The different terraces and seating areas gave plenty of private space. The jacuzzi and pool area was especially nice with a great selection of music. Very close to the town and walking distance to ma y restaurants.

Poco a Poco is a special treat, mostly because of the amazing grounds. The landscaping is phenomenal and there is a trail through the words that is not to be missed. We saw a blue-headed motmot (also called a blue bobo), as it flew up and sat very still on a branch, enabling me to get a pretty good photo with my iphone. The breakfast area is just beautiful and the breakfast buffet is very good, with an omelet bar in addition to the usual rice and beans and fruit. The first night, there was a Christmas celebration and the noise from the drums was deafening. The desk clerk, Lily, kindly gave us a different room (the last one),which was not only quieter but also much bigger. It didn't have a desk, which would have been a dealbreaker for my husband,but she had a table, big enough for both of us to use our laptops, and two chairs brought in. We liked the hotel so much that we canceled one of our scheduled tours to be able to take advantage of the beautiful grounds.

Beautiful resort. Staff was really friendly and attentive to our needs. The heated pool, hot tub and fire pit were awesome and really appreciated as the temperature was quite a bit cooler than our last 15 days in Costa Rica. We were on the 4th floor, and to be honest, I have never experienced such high winds! Luckily, that was only the 1st night. Beds were very comfy and the shower had the most pressure we've experienced in Costa Rica! We dined in the restaurant on our last night, food was good and enjoyed interacting with the young waiter. Seems that a lot of the staff were just being trained, but we're very good. Breakfast was really good too. I would recommend this place for the ambiance and location. Great sunset views as well!

We had a fantastic time at Poco a Poco! When we stayed at the resort, we enjoyed the food, the swim up bar, the spa, and their gardens of fresh herbs and vegetables that ended up in our cocktails and food. The bartender, Pedro, shared his love for music with us and was a pleasure to get to know while we listened to a variety of local and American bands. We spent several evenings in town and fell in love with a very unique bar restaurant called the treehouse which was only about an 8 minute walk with many shops in between. We also loved the local craft brewery. We highly recommend Poco a Poco for it’s self contained comfort and quality in a small town intimate setting.

Great location close to the centre of lively St Elena .Hotel is set in lovely gardens . Pleasant eating areas well kept pool . We arrived on carnival night great fun

We spent three nights here, and it is a very nice hotel. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was excellent. We ate out in town each evening as there was so much choice so can't comment on the restaurant. The grounds are beautiful and there is a wonderful trail where you can see birds and animals. I had expected a balcony as that is what's shown on the photo of the Quetzal room but they don't all have one and it doesn't actually say that they do on the description. It would have been a waste anyway as it was too cool and windy to have ever used it. Room 45 was very noisy as the trees were banging on the roof in the wind all night, but we didn't report it until we checked out, so may have been sorted by now. The road is quite noisy so don't expect total peace and quiet, and the pool is completely under cover, so nowhere to sunbathe if you are lucky with the weather. Very clean and modern and well positioned for the town.

Superb, friendly staff. Great rooms. Excellent food. Wonderful views of the mountains around this very unique town. There is a beautiful walking trail on the property that passes thru gardens and wild forest. Would highly recommend to any visitor to Costa Rica

After the first night had to move rooms due to plumbing issue. Lilian dealt with this immediately and got us moved. Pamela also responded immediately to an issue we brought to her attention. All staff were helpful and friendly but these two went over and beyond to make sure things were put right. Safe and tea/coffee making facilities in room. Restaurant had good views over the garden where there is an interesting trail. Breakfast is good with a choice of dishes. Santa Elena is a few minutes walk away, one short section quite steep, with several restaurants, cafes and shops. Good location for visiting cloud forest,night walks, canopy and hanging bridge tours and more adventure type eg zip lining activities.

Could not recommend this hotel. Very disappointed that the main restaurant was not open as there was limited choice at the other one, there was a very good breakfast though. The room was poor as we had a small one that was close to a noisy road. We had a drink at the pool bar a couple of evenings but we were the only people there; there were some good restaurants and bars close by.
