The Menai Hotel and Bar

Needed a bed and was lucky to get one in this hotel, part of a pub/restaurant but in no sense above the bar. Quiet and comfortable, with far-reaching views from the top floor. Continental breakfast was ok - nice to see a normal-looking toaster for once - but I'd have preferred fresh coffee to those little sachets. Clean, light, quiet, comfortable, nicely furnished, friendly staff. Would come again.

Arrived late at 9.15pm after a six and half hour journey to be told that the bath or shower could not be used due to being broken in a fight in the room the previous night, Music from the bar went on till 1.30 am Woke up to find no hot water to wash with in the sink Told due to the lack of bath/ shower the manager would talk to us in the morning Woke up and went down for breakfast at 8.30 am to find the place all locked up and no staff about at all Only door open was the door out Put keys through letterbox and left never to return. Glasses smashed all over car park on way out thankfully did not get a puncture in car Terrible place !

This is a shabby hotel with uncaring staff. An overall depressing experience. I was grateful I was only staying one night. Dirty and dust on surfaces, dirty windows, dried food particles on dressing table, TV remote control filthy. Serious amount of mould on side of bath. Threadbare bed linen which looked as though someone had already slept in it. No mattress or pillow protectors. Not enough light from lamps, three out of a possible five were not working On complaint to the hotel manager he came to replace light bulbs in the bathroom and table lamp huffing and puffing, with no apology at all.

Location is great but this is more like a hostel than a 3 star hotel. No one to help us check in or out, parking is free but difficult, rooms are not clean - shower was very dirty! Toilet didn’t flush, top of cold tap came off, towel rail came off, shower less than luke warm - it felt like poor student accommodation! Cooked breakfast was lovely and Graham seemed like he cared - he was alone! Why is it on Expedia site?? Shouldn’t be!

This is quite a run down and dated hotel which has a late bar licence on Fridays and Saturdays. Don't expect to get much sleep as the music went on until 1am and there was no attempt by hotel staff to move customers off the premises after hours in a quiet manner - lots of noise as people continued to leave for another hour. Breakfast was terrible - no glasses for juice available, or plates for toast. I had to ask if a cooked breakfast was provided - it really wasn't worth the wait.

Breakfast is included but consists of one type of sliced cheese, ham, cereal, toast you have to cook yourself in a very slow toaster, yoghurt. If you want a cooked breakfast you have to pay extra. The shower was so dirty with half used and empty shampoo bottles inside. If you're on a quick stopover to collect your kids from uni then this place will do. I've been here 3 times and each visit it gets worse. You'd be better off going to a hotel in Beaumaris for the same money, beautiful surroundings and a gorgeous cooked breakfast.

Service very average,no hot water in the morning, breakfast poor, I paid £95, if it had been my own money I would be very disappointed.

If we didn't like it at the Menai we wouldn't have gone back for a 6th time. It may not suit everyone, but it has always been clean, staff pleasant, if a band is playing they have always been good. A nice atmosphere and location, and we like it!

A lovely hotel. Easy reach to town and shops and university.

Music went on too long at night. The locale was not what we wanted. All student bedsits snd takeaways. Beggars outside the supermarket. Could not find a reataurant within reasonable walking distance.
