Royal Hotel, Bar & Grill

The room I got was not having any heating they had one portable heater which was not functioning , toilet was not flushing either. I went to the reception and told the receptionist that the heating is not working and the toilet is not flinching either and I want an extra towel he said he will come to the room to check the room and give me the towel and check the heater , which he never came . All night it was freezing in the room and in the morning I was not able to take shower as the water was Luke warm and not even hot and the heating was not working properly . And I can’t even use the toilet as it was not flushing . Very bad experience. Please avoid this hotel . Worst customer service . I made a complaint to the manager she said she will get back to me . I paid almost £60 for the hotel and the room was bad condition

Looked derelict. Poor condition. Rooms not maintained. Asked for a heater and was given one that did not work. Very disappointing

Toilet seat was painted with paint flaking off. Toilet stained, no restaurant as advertised receptionist knocked on my door at 09:00 and said in broken English that it was a reminder that check out was 11:00 which I found ridiculous especially on a Sunday

Good things were that the bed was comfortable and the shower worked. However the rooms especially the floors could do with a lot more cleaning. The carpets needing shampooing and the bathroom needed bleach cleaning. There was also a bad smell in the building which was not pleasant. The receptionist was friendly which almost made up for poor quality issues

Worse stay ever .. noise from above my room .. i reported it a few times . Arguing slamming doors for a few hours .. eventually went to sleep after 1am

We stayed here for 1 night took look after my son after he had an operation, for convenience. On turning up at the hotel and seeing it had scaffolding everywhere, I was thinking it was a big mistake! The work looks like it is going to be extensive to repair the crumbling stone work of the hotel. The rooms aren't much better, they're in desperate need of revamping, the carpets have many stains, I'm not sure if the bathroom lino was dirty or stained? The room we stayed in was sloping and the floorboards creeked really bad, which must've been annoying for those in the room underneath. We was on the top floor, overlooking the river and without the scaffolding in the way, I'm sure it will be really nice. Other than that, it didn't smell dirty and sheets & towels were clean, as was rest of the room. The staff were pleasant and breakfast was cooked to perfection. The hotel has a lovely garden and view across the river, which I can imagine is very nice in the Summer. Overall, it was okay for what we wanted it for and if need be, I would consider staying here again. Hopefully it will look far better once refurbished especially if the rooms are done too, as this is a prime location. That said, the room was extremely basic, with bare minimum facilities, but the beds were comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. There was a shower over a bath which was adequate.

Poor check in experience I booked 2 rooms for my employees. don't have time to then check them in online, but expect when they arrive for the hotel to be able to do this manually without a fuss. My guys spent 30+ minutes being messed about by the reception guy before being allowed to check in after i called them. Will never use this hotel again,Thinks it's the ritz, it's just a local hotel

the hotel informed engineers to leave their vehicles parked on double yellows and just risk getting a ticket. most disappointed
