The Peacock Hotel

I may just have been unfortunate to have experienced "the perfect storm" but..... When I arrived I was not expected. Fortunately, I had printed my Hotels.com documentation and we were able to resolve the matter quickly. The room itself was cold and the manager/proprietor was very defensive about this. Furthermore, he would not come to the room to switch on the heater. The heater eventually came on at 1.45 am (waking me up with its noise). It is easy to see, therefore, that if the manager had been aware that I was arriving, he might have checked the room and switched the heater on so that the room was warm on my arrival. Had both these things happened, I might have had a much more favourable view of this hotel. For the benefit of any readers of these comments, I would add that I prefer the room to be cool so if it is too cold for me, many travellers would find it impossibly cold.

Room I stayed in was small but done the job. Food was fantastic and serviced matched.

The room was huge, plenty of space and the bed was comfy. The bathroom, whilst clean, was in poor condition, I.e. the bath had a large crack meaning we didn’t feel it safe to use during our stay. This was a shame as we don’t have a large bath at home and we would have liked to use it during our stay. The food and service was good. Friendly staff too who were very helpful.

Good location and parking. Close to public transport.Staff friendly and helpful.Interior a bit dated. Breakfast good but not as hot as we would have liked. Did the job for a one night day good price!

The room 102 was spacious and clean, iron and ironing board provided, breakfast was good and so was the evening meal, staff on first arrival good. What let it down was the second night stay out of the two nights in total when the gent was really pushy asking me where am I going to eat why don't I eat at his restaurant, I said I am going out to try elsewhere and not because the food was bad but more of a change of scenery, he again said why, eat with us come on, I replied no, if he hadn't of been so pushy I would of said for the money, size of room, area not too bad on the fringe of town about a 10 minute walk in and four puns within a 10 minute walk too, then I would of given it a 8 out of 10 but unfortunately I have to go a 5 maybe 6 because of one gent. All other staff were great but the one worries more about money too much and this was made clear by his pushy actions towards me with regards to trying to get me to eat only at his place. Free on site parking helps to around the back.

Well, at least I’ve stayed here once and know not to come back. Had a very hot and uncomfortable room in the roof with no curtain (unless you count the torn net) over the tiny window, a bathroom that smelt awful and walls that meant I could turn my TV down and listen to the one from the next room. Highlight for me was it being close by to the Indian Ark restaurant which provided an excellent curry one night.

Friendly staff they were all helpful. Only complaint was my room seemed to pick up all the noise in the night. Sounded like a lot of movement pass my room. Noise also above me. Evening meals were good.
