Hidden Lodge Queenstown

We had a brilliant stay and cannot recommend this place highly enough. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom excellent. The location and views are stunning, immersed in nature, incredibly peaceful, and yet perfectly placed for exploring the area. Breakfast was a real highlight: cooked to order and absolutely delicious each morning. Just as special was the warm, homely atmosphere curated by Wendy and David. Breakfast conversations were a joy, and their thoughtful advice about where to go and what to eat made our time in Queenstown even better. Above all, Wendy and David’s care and hospitality are unforgettable. We felt genuinely welcomed, well looked after, and completely relaxed, to the point where we really didn’t want to leave. We’re deeply grateful for their kindness and look forward to seeing them again.

Gorgeous views of the lake and mountains from the floor to ceiling windows from the communal space and our bedroom. Very spacious bedroom (with balcony) and bathroom with everything you could need. The complimentary drinks in the fridge and snacks are such a classy touch. The communal space is so welcoming and cozy, with board games and well stocked library with all the latest release NZ guidebooks too. And we could see hundreds of stars from our bedroom window as there is no light pollution. So pleased we choose to stay here (10 mins drive outside Queenstown) versus in Queenstown.

We stayed at Hidden Lodge Queenstown for three nights as part of our honeymoon, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The lodge is owned and run by David and Wendy, who was living on-site and personally care for the property. Their son was also around during our stay. Despite this, their presence never felt intrusive — instead, it reinforced how genuinely well cared for the lodge is. The views are breathtaking. With Lake Wakatipu in front and the Remarkables mountains behind, the scenery is even better in person than in photos. The lodge is beautifully designed with an open, airy layout. Both the rooms and common areas are positioned to maximise the views, paired with décor that feels luxurious yet relaxed. The facilities are also immaculate, and every room consistently smells fresh and pleasant — a small detail that makes a big difference. What truly sets Hidden Lodge apart is the warmth of the family. The service felt personal, attentive, and genuinely caring. Wendy was exceptional — proactive, highly organised, and seemingly prepared for every question, often with neatly printed information ready. She offered excellent local insights and gladly offered to help with bookings. David, an ex-chef, prepares breakfast each morning, and it was outstanding. Even a simple omelette tasted incredible. His warmth and personality also made breakfast conversations something we looked forward to daily. We even ran into their son while shopping in Queenstown CBD, where he was working at one of the stores. He was just as friendly and helpful, reinforcing the genuine family atmosphere. As animal lovers, we also adored Coco the dog and Enza the cat, who live on-site. Both are very friendly and added a lot of joy to our stay. The hosts were also thoughtful, ensuring the pets were only in shared areas when guests were comfortable. In terms of facilities, Hidden Lodge is absolutely five-star. However, the true highlight is the warmth and authenticity of the hosts.

The suite is very comfortable and tidy with a very nice view overlooking the lake and the mountains. The place is just a few minutes drive away from the Queenstown city centre but itself is very quiet away from the crowd. Breakfast included are delicious with plenty of options to choose from. We enjoy the stay a lot.

Incredible views

Excellent stay at The Hidden Lodge! The location is a 40 min walk or short uber ride outside of the busy town. There is also a local bus that was super convenient and affordable. We enjoyed beautiful lake views from our spacious room. The sauna and weight/yoga rooms were a bonus as was the outdoor soak tub. Our favorite things about the lodge were the gracious hosts, Wendy and David. They helped us with planning, restaurant recommendations, and activity reservations. The homemade daily breakfast were delicious and kept us field got the day. An A+ stay.
