"Perfect relaxing stay"

We stayed here for 2 nights over Christmas and no complaints at all! Christmas Eve we thought punters would leave late and make a lot of noise but no noise after 11! We had single beds which was fine and beds were comfortable. Shower was powerful and generally all good! Breakfast was yummy on both mornings and served by lovely friendly staff! We had a lovely chat with Louise on Boxing Day!! So all in all it was relaxing and perfect. We had Christmas with family and friends in Castle Cary so the George was just perfect!!

"OK for a couple of nights"

Good location and the rooms were quiet. The bed was comfortable and we slept well.

The rooms are tired, I believe they are closing for a full refurb in 2026. Heating was off in our room on arrival. No curtain for the glass door to the room, OK in the winter but you would be up at sunrise in the Summer. Shower was very poor. A good breakfast was let down by cheap bread.

"We needed a place to stay near Castle Cary station. Is this the only one available in the town?"

Breakfast OK but why pay extra for more than one item - seems petty? Dinner good tho. Atmosphere in pub good but bedroom facilities lacking: old broken windows let in draughts. Furniture old and rickety - table collapsed and heavy table lamp fell just missing my head. No sockets by the bed. Only single pipe towel rail in bathroom and water just a trickle. Mattress poor and awoken by bin men outside at 04.30. Arrived Sunday evening and NO taxis available. Had to beg a lift from the station.
