The George Hotel

Great location, we've stayed a few times. Its lovely to be in such an old, characterful building with so much history. Food was lovely as always, really great quality and well presented.

The experience was let down by the front of house staff. The evening was okay, service was quick. However the morning was a different experience. Very grumpy man, clearly under resourced and without saying a word let every one know about it.

Met up here with family as two were travelling by train. The George was helpful in the fact they moved our reservation by over an hour due to train problems. However we felt the mains were very disappointing especially my husband's mushroom linguine which was swimming in oil. He should have sent it back but we didn't want to spoil the meeting up. We were also served a pint of alcohol beer when in fact a pint of alcohol free beer had been ordered. But that said the desserts ( cheese cake and sticky toffee pudding) were very good and there was an historical ambience to the pub.

The staff were lovely. The bed was great.

The toilet needed gallon of bleach to soak it clean, it was dreadful! The steps to our room were extremely dangerous so too was the surface of the car park. No curtain on the glass door to the room which is straight off the car park. The car park lights were on all night so lit up the room. The food was very poor and the dining room was cold and dark. There wasn't a safety handrail to the shower in the bath.

What a wonderful 15th Century hotel. Groovy rooms. Comfortable bed. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The dinner was extraordinary. Pulled lamb shoulder - just fabulous, with a most tasty jus (sauce) and very nicely done veg. It simply 'sang' in my mouth. The chef really knew his business. Breakfast was also great, I ordered a simple ham and cheese omelette, but done to perfection. The Publican himself cooked it.

Nothing, zero, nada. I liked everything about this hotel.

Staff were fantastic. Food is excellent. Had dinner and breakfast both nights. My freind came for dinner who lives local and enjoyed the food too. Room has everything you need. Comfy bed and huge bathroom. Bar staff were lovely and the main guy running it was welcoming and really corteous.

Had a pleasant stay. Photos were accurate.

Breakfast waiter wasn’t the best. Lacked a bit of customer service. Was a bit abrupt. Borderline rude.

Food was lovely but the waitress served us couldn't pick her feet up and was wearing a grey stained jumper didn’t fit with the aesthetic of the place that’s for sure……
