Clean property with friendly and helpful staff ,convenient just a short walk from minster and shops

The location was perfect, as everything was just a short walk away and a bus stop right outside. The room was lovely and spacious and very clean. The only small thing was I couldn’t get a signal on the TV, but we had a very pleasant stay.

The guest house had changed ownership within a week of our stay and some of the services had changed from when I booked, I wasn’t aware of this before arrival. The building and garden are beautiful; the whole premises, the bedroom and bathroom were very clean and tidy and the staff member I spoke to was very nice and informative. What has changed is that the guest house no longer provides a cooked or continental breakfast in a dining room and instead there is a breakfast basket in each room. There are advantages to this in that there is no rush to head downstairs in the morning for something to eat but it was a disappointment to us. The basket contained a jar of cornflakes, UHT milk, two yoghurts, two apples, two flapjacks and two long life croissants. There are spoons and plastic bowls for the cereal and a kettle, two cups and tea and coffee sachets in the room as well as orange juice. There was more than enough to eat for the two of us but a breakfast of cornflakes and room temperature milk and yoghurts eaten sitting on the end of my bed is not really what I had in mind when I paid for bed and breakfast. We had coffee and orange juice in the room before heading out to buy breakfast which we didn’t plan on having to find the time or money for in our break in York. As other reviews have said the rooms are small but this isn’t a real problem other than the shower which was a little too small for our liking. A nice place but the breakfast issue means we won’t be back.

Very nice room in every way. Good location, bus outside door and 10 min to city center. Would stay again in room 7.

We absolutely loved this charming and delightful hidden treasure. A short walk to The York Minster Cathedral and the city center. The location to everything was perfect in all aspects. The bus stop is right outside the front gate perfect after a long day of sightseeing.

The B and B location was perfect and the quality of service was fantastic but the cleanliness and upkeep was not up to scratch, the room was dusty with a broken lamp and the shower and cubicle needed attention (resealing and had trouble keeping the shower head where it needed to be due to loose fittings) and a few choice stains on cushions and runner but the breakfast was lovely only a short walk into York

Very bad experience.Definitely a waste of money. No clear checkin policy. No nice reception. Money-oriented host. An uncomfortable and failure choice.

Relaxing stay

Hotel is in convenient position, bus outside or walk to town centre in 10 minutes. Had very quiet room at top of hotel, at the back. It is an old building, so a lot of stairs to the upstairs room, not that that bothered us. Room very small, but window opened. Bathroom tiny, had a problem with the shower every day we stayed there, the owner tried to fix it but was impossible to have a shower without being burnt. Breakfast was provided, we had continental, which was excellent. Owner was very nice and helpful. The hotel has just been sold so perhaps new owner will modernise it.

Nice hotel, easy walking distance to centre. Enjoyed our weekend stay!
