Alfheimar Hotel

I have mixed, but overall positive, impressions of this lodging. We were disappointed after a long drive to not be able to check in until >1-1/2 hours after the time advertised, but understand that there were special circumstances for that day. We were also disappointed to find that wifi didn't reach our room; staff did offer to change our room, but our room (in the first red building) was significantly roomier, had more character, and overall seemed "nicer" than the alternative one showed to us in the main building. We did dine in the restaurant for their buffet and really enjoyed the variety and quality of what was offered. We also very much appreciated that the staff were willing to do a load of laundry for us, as that was a challenge during most of our trip. So, overall I do recommend this lodge, and its food, in this sweet little out-of-the-way town.

Simple rooms very clean. Had great fixed dinner of soup,catfish and home made ice cream served very efficiently. Puffin colony 5 Kms away

Excellent off the beaten track location. Spectacular drive to get there. Clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff. And a very nice restaurant.

My husband and I loved staying here for 3 nights. Our room was cozy, clean and warm. I love that it is located at the edge of town and the surrounding views are amazing, but it is still close enough to walk into town, so you get the best of both worlds. I loved how you could get coffee and tea any time of day, and that there was a place to connect to wifi if we needed it. The only thing we weren't crazy about was that the breakfast offered was the same every day.

Clean, quiet, great breakfast - nice & early at 7.30am

Excellent service and clean room with en suite shower and toilet on a budget in a beautiful little town - we arrived early in the check-in time range to find that our room needed something-what we weren't sure since the young woman who checked us in whisked us back to reception while it was fixed. Ten minutes later, we were in a warm double room with more space than expected, and a much appreciated en suite shower, sink, and toilet. All was spotlessly clean. The young woman who checked us in provided a wealth of information about the town, the harbor with nesting puffins, and local hikes and things to see - she even told us what time to watch out for the peak across the fjord to turn pink from the setting sun. She was also able to help us with some laundry - the hotel did a load for us at a charge of ISK1500 - very reasonable, we thought. The hotel is right on the water (see photo with yellow flowers taken from parking lot). Included breakfast was among the best we've had in Iceland - good selection on the buffet and fresh strong coffee. They even had a bottle of cod liver oil and shot glasses out (we were too gutless to try it but it was definitely memorable). The puffins were AMAZING and we plan to come back to the town and to Álfheimar!

New hotel with great rooms with an open view to the surrounding mountains. The service and breakfast are great and even a dinner is available (important in such a remote location). The only complain is the ceramic tiles floor that does not fit the local climate. Other wise, very recommend!
