Ramada Encore by Wyndham Newcastle-Gateshead

I enjoyed my stay at Ramada Encore by Wyndham Newcastle-Gateshead. The customer service was top notch, the room sparkling neat, and very spacious. The staff quite friendly and welcoming. The environment, serene and peaceful. I definitely commend them as well as recommend them.

Ah, the Encore Hotel, Newcastle – a place where dreams go to die and the smell of weed lingers longer than any customer service training clearly ever did. Walking into the lobby was like stepping into a low-budget Netflix docuseries about urban decay. Think Trainspotting, but without the charm. The scent of cannabis hits you before the lift opens on your designated floor – a potent mix of Eau de Skunk and broken promises. I wasn’t sure if I’d booked a hotel or accidentally wandered into a pop-up homeless shelter with room service. The hotel is actually a homeless shelter housing Newcastle Councils 'guests' as described by the bar staff - you have been warned. Speaking of service, it’s as absent as the bar staff at various times. I tried to order dinner five whole minutes after last orders, but before the kitchen closed, but apparently, that was asking too much. It's hard to place an order when the bar is emptier than a politician's promise. When we did find someone, they refused us because "last orders were at 20:45." Newsflash: if I can’t find staff until after last orders, that’s not my fault – that’s hide-and-seek with hunger pains. The shift manager, and I use the term manager loosely, was unsympathetic to my diabetic hunger pains, so dinner via the onsite vending machine it was ! Rooms? About as clean as a student flat after Freshers' Week. Honestly, I half expected to find a chalk outline and a Netflix camera crew. If the carpet could talk, it would beg for bleach. To their credit, breakfast was surprisingly good – perhaps because it's the only meal you’re allowed to actually eat. Eggs were fresh, sausages juicy, and I appreciated the passive-aggressive judging by council 'guests' glaring at me in a shirt and jacket at breakfast. In conclusion, if you're after a night in Newcastle and you’ve always wondered what it’s like to sleep inside a crime statistic, book now. Otherwise, run – don’t Encore.

Arrived for a single night business stay, on exiting taxi doorway was filthy and immediately sensed something not quite right. After check in got to room, floors filthy, scum round shower floor and hair balls and dust throughout the room. Went back to reception and 2nd room provided. It was worse than 1st, looked like someone had been incontinent in the chair. Immediately checked out and found an alternative. In Newcastle for 2 days and outlined the issue I had to colleagues, informed the hotel is hosting up to 50% non traveller guests who may be seeking some form of refuge. That should not impact cleanliness so unclear why standards so poor. Would not recommend this hotel unless on a very low budget and happy with filth. On a positive the staff were apologetic and readily provided a full refund.

We stayed here for two nights, we chose this hotel because it had parking. The parking is £10 per night and it is secure. It's an easy walk down to the quayside and into the city centre if you are fit and healthy. Or you can catch a bus outside the hotel. The staff here are all nice and the public areas in the hotel are very nice and modern looking. The rooms are good, we were on the fifth floor, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very nice, plenty of clean towels and a walk in shower. The bedroom flooring and the furniture were slightly worn but nothing bad. Tea and coffee facilities, TV, iron, hairdryer. Would I recommend this hotel? Definitely, I can't understand the negative comments left by a few people. I would definitely stay again if I came by car but if I came by train then I would probably stay in the city centre. Well done guys.

Stayed for 1 night chose the hotel for the location and car park which were both good. It is around a 10/15 minute walk to the centre of Newcastle but that is uphill. Check in/out was easy staff were polite friendly. Room was clean a good size. Would stay here again.
