"The ROOM that wasn't!"

2.0

After booking with them, they cancelled my booking (apparently rooms were not finished - being plastered!!) Cricket just happened to be on that day at Taunton? Worse they did not refund me ÂŁ75 and neither would Hotel.com (booking agent) they also did not help me with trying to get funds back from Hotel.com. I raised a dispute with PayPal and they eventually refunded me.

What a wonderful find. Needed somewhere to stop on the way to holiday in Cornwall and what a gem. Traditional pub with 6 letting rooms, set in beautiful gardens alongside a river. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished and everything is spotless. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The breakfasts are huge and everything well cooked. We had an evening meal on our arrival and although the pub was very crowded as it was a sunny Friday evening, we didn't wait very long and the food was excellent. We so enjoyed our stay on the way down that we booked again for our return journey and travelled through the beautiful countryside of Exmoor to get there. Again a good welcome as they recognised us from the week before. Another beautiful bedroom with ensuite shower and again excellent food. We can thoroughly recommend The Anchor Inn and hope to stay there again.

"Excellent, but........"

8.0

The setting was picturesque, right next to an old stone bridge crossing the River Exe which runs alongside the beautiful gardens. The place was attractive and clean, the staff friendly and the food was good. We stayed two nights but were very surprised when we returned to our room on the late afternoon of our first day to find the beds unmade, the cups unwashed, bins not emptied and tea/coffee not replenished. We’ve never experienced this before but when we mentioned it to the owner he said it is their policy now not to enter rooms when the guests are out without being specifically requested to do so. He said this was due to a recent couple of incidents where a guest’s belongings had gone missing. He said the member of staff who showed us to our room should have made us aware, but this didn’t happen. I said they should make sure people knew and maybe put an information notice on the bedroom doors. Such a shame as this small incident cast a shadow on what would have been an excellent couple of days.
