Nice food

Busy, noisy hotel. Good for them, not for us!

Pleasant enough

Wasn't made clear at booking that food finished at 5 and bar closed at 7. So as a resident, no dinner and no drink.

Very close to the south Down footpath, good breakfast, nice room in a very old building,

Two days before, I got an email telling me they closed on Sunday at 5pm and a late check in would cost £20. Nothing said when I booked. It actually was not true as they were open until 7pm and actually did food until 6pm. I definitely would not pay £20 just in case I was late but as a long distance walker it changed how my plans. I might have eaten if I know they served until 6pm. Also the link on the email didn’t work.

Breakfast

Staff were generally confused at check in. Sent us note that if we check in after 5pm on Sunday they would charge 20 pounds. They turned the lights off at the bar at 5pm but kept it open until 6:30. All very confusing. No heat in room.

Food was good, with good service

We booked our visit in July 2025, confirmation of deluxe double with garden view. We arrived at 2.00pm on Friday 8th May, to be told there was no room at the Castle Inn and we would have to take a room at the Tollgate Hotel some 200yards down the road. Clearly this accommodation was not fully ready having only been taken over a few weeks ago. Wi fi was not available despite notice to the contrary, food was not available at this address and for breakfast we had to walk back to the Castle Inn. Room was OK but not to the level of the Castle Inn as advertised , Shower water took for ever to heat up . Overall a complete disappointment having made the booking some

Trevlig personal, personligt bemötande. De arrangerade ett quiz där alla gäster bjöds in. Trevligt! Bra läge med fina promenadvägar runtom och intressant historisk plats med en kyrka från 1000-talet.

Th staff were great. The bedroom & ensuite were a little tired (but clean).

The noise from the kitchen extractor woke us up!
