Hewitt's Restaurant & Rooms

Lovely room. The staff were great and the location was very handy. There is on street parking outside the front door or a council car park across the street which we bought a tourist pass for. The pass allows you to park almost anywhere parking is available on the island for £10 a day.

No air conditioning but it's a very old building so that's understandable. A fan was provided and the window could be opened wide so it wasn't too bad even in 35° heat outside.

Welcoming of the staff, cleanliness, location.

Slight issue with the draining of the bathroom sink, but probably down to plumbing as an old building. Breakfast was continental, maybe could add some cheese or cold meats, but not a big issue.

Service was exceptional. Ellie was very friendly and made me feel so welcome from start to finish

Bar/restaurant was closed as it was a Monday.

Location was perfect for walking into Newport, and driving to all areas of the IOW. Staff were friendly and professional.

It was not possible to open our windows in either our bedroom or the bathroom. (They were low sash windows and probably might be a safety risk to small children perhaps?) The fan in the bathroom did not work. The room was therefore rather stuffy. The windows were single glazed and consequently, any traffic noise from the adjacent (walled on both sides) road was horribly noisy at times. Although the room was very clean, the window frames were unacceptably mouldy. We expected something much better for the price we paid and felt the previous good reviews misled us to making the booking especially as we opted for the most expensive room option at the hotel. Continental breakfasts were also disappointing, but we’ve said enough already.

Great continental style breakfast. Crumpets with Marmite was a treat. Good to have fresh fruit and yoghurt.
