Room looking a little tired but was comfortable. Breakfast very rushed as if they wanted you to leave , cooked breakfast wasn’t given any choices how you would like your eggs cooked , didn’t let you know what there was had to ask, also no toast offered had to ask again. Had to ask if there was any other options . A breakfast menu would of been helpful.

Interesting old building; enjoyed the Dickens quotations; quirky little room 2 where Dickens wrote part of Pickwick Papers. The staff were friendly & helpful especially Jess & Steve who gave us a great welcome when we arrived. The food was of a high standard - well done chef!

"A trip down memory lane ."

6.0

Return to the pub I did my pub management training in 40 years ago . Still full of charm gardens amazing , however some of the carpets look the same as 40 years ago threadbare and not really conducive to a wow factor . I have been in this industry 50 years and things like missing tiles in a bathroom and heated towel rail not working really don't cut it especially as despite it being June it was cold , there was an electric radiator in the wardrobe we didn't test it out though. Such a shame as the host and staff were great and the hot water plentiful . I would still return though the charm of staying in such an historic building does a lot to overcome the negatives. I hope that doesn't stop investment where needed on the internal decor though .

The room was pleasant but a very tired carpet think it was the one that was down when Dickens stayed there. The restaurant was grubby and the floor felt dirty the staff were friendly but dressed scruffy overall it just didnt give a good impression.
