Very grubby around the edges, continental breakfast nil point!

It is located in a very nice village surrounded by apple farms and has the lovely character of an nice old country inn. One with an interesting history which adds to its charm.

Great location. Can't believe it is so close to the A2 and yet it feels like you are miles away in the countryside, well away from the hustle and bustle. Rooms are 'Characterful' with creaky floorboards, antique furniture and a real feeling of time gone by. 'Rush hour' lasts for about 45 mins in the morning and likewise in the evening. Food is good.Visit the church opposite, St Mary Magdalene it is a real treasure trove and if you are lucky you may meet one of the volunteers and get some 'history'-the brasses are wonderful.

Hotel was chosen purely on location which was perfect for our purposes. However, the overall impression was one of shabbiness and on arrival there was a problem with the water/heating which entailed the kitchen closing and our eating at a neighbouring pub. The staff were as helpful as possible under the circumstances.

I appreciate the the property is very old but that wasn’t the problem. It lacked atmosphere, the staff had no get up and go and needed to give a warm welcome there guests on arrival but they didn’t. Rooms were okay although bathroom in room 5 is like a broom cupboard. It was cold and wet the day we arrived. No heating on in the rooms had to ask for it to be put on although we did have a portable heater we could put on which we needed. The shower is the most antiquated shower we have ever encountered on our many years of travel. The tv did not work due to a blown fuse and had to get someone to come and sort it out. Now to breakfast ,it was presumed we was having cooked breakfast ,there was no menu given to us . The choice was cereal fruit juice and cooked breakfast, no fruit no yoghurt s no pastries again haven’t had such a lack lustre breakfast in a hotel since the seventies . .When-the cooked breakfast it arrived it was nice ,hot and edible although the room where they served it to us was cold. The price the hotel charges is well over the top ,would I recommend no I wouldn’t.

Lovely cooked breakfast, friendly staff and comfortable, clean room. I would come again but request a room at the back of the hotel.

Really comfortable room. Food very dull and unimaginative. Were initially given a table in very noisy bar next to a table with three poorly managed children, when we thought we had booked a table in the restaurant (which had only one other couple in it). Staff helpful in rectifying this. Felt the Dickens angle was not properly exploited.

Lovely little place. Not a fan of the separate bathroom as it makes going for a p in the night hard. But very nice staff, lovely setting.
