"5-Stargazer"

10.0

Under Canvas West Yellowstone was the last minute addition to our Yellowstone vacation, and it turned out to be the highlight. The staff, the location, and the property itself exceeded my rather blank expectations. The staff was well informed, very courteous, and rather attractive. They made it feel like I had barely left the city at all, let alone was camping in a river valley. We arrived a little late due to holiday traffic, but they made extra effort to ensure I hadn't missed the ice cream party held earlier than day. My dog was happy to see everyone, and everyone was happy to see her-- which isn't usually the case at other properties we visit. Under Canvas is about a 10 minute drive out of the town of West Yellowstone. I am sure West Yellowstone isn't exactly known for being a loud place to be, but Under Canvas was absolutely silent. The only sounds to enjoy was the mellow meander of the Madison River, and the laughter of children that greatly exceed their standard deduction. The last point I would care to make is the sunset from our tent was spectacular, and well worth the price of admission. Speaking of the tent, holy s h I t. I did not know that being homeless could be so cozy. The tent was situated well apart from the neighbors, and we didn't hear a peep from them at all. I can say rather matter-of-factly that is a rare feature in a National Park. This solitude allowed me to spend quality time with my dog and tent-mates without considering the greater Canvas community around us. The wood burning stove was amazing, and kept us toasty once we remembered it existed. The bathroom functioned as expected, though the shower was a little cold after I had spent 5 minutes scrubbing the Madison River off of my calves. Apparently the propane for it had gone dry. The bed was perfect 10/10. Way better than sleeping in my camping pad on the rocky ground, as the rest of my experience became traveling elsewhere in the park. TL;DR: Good tent. Good people. Pretty place. Dog loved it. No WiFi.

"Unsafe Stay – Smoke and CO Exposure, No Heater, Po"

2.0

We stayed for two nights—myself, my wife, and our two kids—and unfortunately had a very distressing experience due to serious safety issues with the room. The wood stove heater in our room was malfunctioning from the start. I called room service multiple times; each time, someone came to restart the fire, but it would go out again in less than an hour. The room quickly filled with smoke, forcing us to leave the windows open in freezing temperatures. On the first night, I nearly developed frostbite. Even more concerning, we were unknowingly exposed to carbon monoxide. The next morning, both kids had severe stomach aches and vomiting. My wife and I experienced the same symptoms. Despite reporting the issue again, we were told the service team had checked during the day—but nothing improved. That night, the heater failed again. A maintenance person came around midnight but couldn’t fix it. Only after escalating again did someone finally offer to move us to a new room—at 1 a.m. By then, our night was ruined, and our plans for the following day were completely derailed. The staff, especially Hanna, were courteous and tried to help, but the overall response was reactive and too little, too late. We were told a refund would be issued and that the property is coordinating with Hotels.com—but as of now, we are still waiting. This was supposed to be a peaceful and memorable getaway for our family, but it turned into a health scare. I hope this review serves as a caution for other

Rooms got a bit cold and the furnace burned through the wood very quickly. Had to tend to the fire pretty regularly throughout the night.

"Breathtaking views and accommodations with inexperienced and apathetic staff."

6.0

Overall I would try again in a different location. However they should really focus on staff training and hire people who seemingly want to be there. All staff I met had been there for less than a month and were not very friendly or knowledgeable. Pros: -Breathtaking views. -Beautiful accommodations. -Excellent styling, promotional materials and swag for sale -Julia was great. She had just started and was very friendly. -food was excellent but had to drive to restaurant. -great access to West Yellowstone entrance -easy access to Wild West Yellowstone rodeo (highly recommend) Cons: -Overnight staff was meh. There were two women that were not friendly. It seemed like a chose to bring hot water bags to our tent, or to get our cooler from their fridge. Grumpy - why work there? -I was carrying my 3 year old and a staff person drove by on a golf cart. I asked if I could jump on for the duration of her ride and she said no. -“Celestial jewelry” they just put our beads. Little to no effort. Once the kids table was full they made no effort to help set up more space for more kids. No talk about the stars or anything. They could have done more for “programming” -we watched the fire setup from one welcome staff the day after we got there and the tutorial was complexly different by staff person. We froze the first night but once I learned the right way to build a fire by another staff person - it was better. - no N/A beer options -no maps available -the excursions/experiences accommodate age 7 and up. My family was SOL with two 3 year olds and a 6 year olds

Fantastic location close to Yellowstone. The tents were beautiful and comfortable, offering a great glamping experience. Check-in was smooth with exceptionally friendly and informative staff. Great service and atmosphere overall – highly recommended!

The road leading to the tents was a bit rough, and the check-in signage could have been clearer – it was a bit confusing at first. Minor issues in an otherwise outstanding experience.

"Too much hurdles for a lot of money"

2.0

Our bed was ok

Glamping (glamorous camping) by Under the Canvas is a SCAM. “Glamorous” it is absolutely NOT. In total our experience was horrible. I know that people who do like camping, and they do not have bathroom and toilet in their rooms, but they also do not pay $500 per night to stay in freezing conditions without electricity, to keep your fire trough the night, and be in complete darkness. They do not pay $500 per night to deal with all noise from wind, rain or singing people. The toilet and shower are in the same tent and you have to pull a chain to take a shower. The chain broke numerous times while we showered. We stayed there only 2 nights out of booked 8 nights and had to leave because of horrible conditions. Nobody came to clean the cabin, and it’s need to be clean from the ashes and chips from the wood which you use for the wood burning stove. They said that the rooms are generally not cleaned and you should ask about housekeeping. They did not bother to bring you new towels or pick up dirty ones. The temperature at night was about 37-39 F. You do not want to get in bed in the evening or wake up at that temperature in the morning. They also do not have air conditioning and it can be very uncomfortable in the hot weather. They have no refund policy, and we lost money for 6 nights ($500 per night).. Another part of the family, 2 adults with 2 children, booked a tent with a small tent for children. That small tent is not connected the parents tent, and has no stove in it. So it is completely useless, and children. had to move to the parent’s tent. It was a disaster. They left 2 nights earlier also, and lost $1000. So nothing there was GLAMOROUS, just incompetence and bad services under fancy name

"Not worth it ."

The isolation

Bad service , moody staff in front desk. I understand it’s a tent but for 550 dls you would expect at least heating blankets. I have stayed before in tents and while the Luxury is being isolated you could be isolated for much less . Autocamp is a better option for this experience .
