"Hotel review"

4.0

The place is just hyped up to nothing compared too what you hope and expect it be! On arrival, reception area is very, very run down! Bedrooms are not much better, dated and run down too! The mixer tap shower cord was too short to be able to have a decent shower! Complained and changed! The balcony was was a a height my toddler to climb up on, never mind the wood rotten I.to the bargain! My baby girl was picking and pulling it off all week, as it was just falling to bits anyway! The food was ok if you were only wanting to eat pizza and chips! I'm pretty sure all the food from each meal timethat wasn't eaten, was recycled into next days food! It was blended into burge kebab skews and soup! Never mind the uneaten chicken nuggets from the night before were put into the next night's desert area with chocolate sauce all over then!! Absolutely putrid....how anyone can give this hotel above a 2 or 3 star are completely delusional! Never mind there was absolutely no entertainment at night but was advertised as so when we booked!!!! Pay that bit extra to get a much better hotel!

"Short but sweet stay here... for third time."

10.0

Another awesome time at this hotel. Was only a fleeting 3 night visit. Not been here in almost 2 years, and although some things have changed, like the stage area, the vibe and staff were still awesome. The beach bar wasn't open, but will be soon. The food was good with plenty of variation, waiters both at the bars and restaurant were polite and happy, especially saif and Khalid...were some others but I dont remember their names. The new animation team were such fun, with plenty of daytime activities, group dances around the pool, stretching, zumba, darts, boule, volleyball all, ping pong. Gigi the kids club animation, is still here and still amazing as ever. The cheif "slimfast" is very energetic, engaging and fun, and his team, Hana, Dali, Khalil, Momo, sara, 2 new guys arrived today as i was leaving, who seemed great too but didnt catch their names.... they did some brilliant shows, with break dancing, Mr Hotel ,currently downstairs in the disco, only downside is the heat in there and the bar wasn't open, and had to go upstairs, although there was waiter service. The room was fine, although we appeared to have the only room without a hair dryer in it...which reception staff did not belive us about...and even came to check ... but didn't rectify. Pool lifeguard , sami, is still so kind and helpful, getting cushions for the beds. The slide pool and snack bar are not open yet, but will be soon...there are snacks available in the a la carte restaurant though. Talking of which, the food in there was amazing, I had the chicken and cous cous....so much food for me but was delicious , and it was a lovely atmosphere, you have to reserve minimum of 24 hours prior, our waiter was called Nafoul. Didn't have room cleaned, as own choice but saw lots of maids around all the time, working hard. There is Alibaba, selling trips, a lady doing beautiful henna tattoos, a photographer and small shop, selling trinkets and essentials, plus jewellery. The guest relations manager was efficient and knowledgeable. Beautiful location right on the beach, with plenty of sunbeds (like with the pool area).

"Not a 4* experience"

4.0

First of all I’ll highlight this is not my first holiday to this continent nor this country. However, this will be my last trip to Tunisia. This hotel certainly isn’t the 4* it is advertised as, more of a 2*+ On arrival we paid the tourist tax which we were aware of prior to landing, no problem. We then filled out the visitor visa type sheets for each guest. (Time consuming when there is 6 of you) we were told at 11:30am that if we went and had a drink in the bar and headed for lunch, our room would be ready for when we got back. 1pm comes with a very unhappy baby who was hot & tired from travelling, still no room. We sat in reception with a screaming baby waiting for our rooms for another 30 mins. There appears to be no rush for check in. Wheelchair and pushchair users beware, this isn’t a completely accessible hotel, access to the pool from any direction is only via steps which is a nightmare. First full day, we have breakfast and then head to reception to ask about pool towels. Reception tells us they are located at the spa and are charged at 20DT per towel. We go to spa and are told they are 30DT and have gone up in price since last week. Firstly this is the only hotel I’ve known that charge for towels (however it is refunded on last day) most other hotels have a chip or towel card which you are given at check in. This is a gateway for towel theft more than anything else. The all inclusive here is a rip off really. The local beer is fine but the bar is just bottled local spirits and these are served in plastic beakers or card board cups. Never have I been served cocktails like this before. Some of the drinks aren’t included in the all inclusive either. The food is mediocre and can get repetitive quickly. The desserts are good however. I can imagine that in the busy summer months the buffet restaurant is a nightmare as there just doesn’t appear to be anywhere near enough food stations for the amount of guests. This results in lengthy queues which resemble school dinner lines. There is one bar serving drinks for the whole hotel (outside of the dinner restaurant) so if you’re at the beach be prepared to walk back to the hotel for a drink) there is no food available outside of set meal times either. So much for all inclusive. Definitely the worst I have ever been to. Ali baba (excursion rep) oh lord, how I didn’t lose my temper with him just on day one I will never know. He is relentless, an actual pest and he will harass you. He also charges well above average, please look elsewhere for a better deal. Animation team, well this was great the day of arrival and day one. Very friendly and have a lot of good interaction with the kids. However, the head of animation got a little to over friendly with my 18 year old daughter to the point she felt very uncomfortable which has left her feeling anxious at his presence. Also not a lot going on around the pool just an hour in the morning and the afternoon. The pool isn’t big enough to accommodate the amount of guests. There are no toilets around the pool or on the beach which means a long walk back to your room or into the hotel. Please please do your research on tourist attractions outside of the hotel, today we got in two taxis to port el katoui (agreed price) 20Dt, been left the hotel 5 mins, taxis pulled over to say the port was closed until the afternoon and that it would be better for us to go to Monastir. (Please note the port is open daily from 10am) We were shown a brochure of the marina there etc which appealed. He said we should go to a shopping centre first. We were driven to a single shop where we were shown leather garment making, we were then told to look at the gifts available and we would be given a good price. (Note nothing in this shop was priced) We let the children choose some small gifts. We got to the till and were asked for 640TD my husband said no as this was ludicrous. He then tried to haggle with my husband for 15 mins to the point we put a lot of the gifts back and spent 120TD. It made me feel very uncomfortable at the pushy sales techniques. He then followed us out and still badgered us to buy more. When my husband said no, he told us to f**k off. We believe these taxi drivers deliberately took us here as they were friends or family members. Advice is to 100% stick to the tourist areas only and do not get sucked into this. Also when we got back the drivers tried to charge double what they had agreed. We did not pay this. (Note, day one go for a walk into the street outside and you will find a little gift shop down some stairs, the stuff we got robbed 120DT for at the shop above, we would have paid 50DT max for here) The hotel it’s self is slightly run down, the carpets throughout need to be ripped out as they smell terrible (we described it as the same smell as a cat litter tray) the bathrooms and a lot of the hotel have a sewage smell which is off putting. The hotel its self lacks atmosphere, no music in the lobbies and on wet days families are just sitting around with nothing to really do. There are no tea & coffee facilities in the room and the mini fridge is empty and you have to get your own bottled water from the bar. Coke etc is CHARGED extra! The shop within the hotel is charging 4-7DT more than the little gift shop down the road. Please make the short walk there for much better deals. The hotel also smells like sewage 90% of the time which is very off putting when you are heading for meals. I’m not sure why this is but it’s awful. Good points however, the waiting staff in the restaurant are very attentive and will do anything for you with a smile. Please tip them generously as they earn very little here. Achref the hotel photographer is also a really lovely guy, sat and chatted to us day one and we asked him about pictures etc and we booked to have these done. He is really good at his job and is just a genuinely lovely person. He came to chat with us every day and will be a friend for life. Please book with him for some lovely memories. Remember to spend all money you have changed to Tunisian currency before getting through security at the airport as this is a closed currency and you cannot take it into duty free, it will be confiscated. Overall I am really disappointed with this holiday and I will not be returning to Tunisia.
