Sherman Inn

As part of a 50th wedding anniversary gift by our children, we thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful week at the Sherman Inn in Ogdensburg, NY. Originally an elementary school, the Inn has been attractively upgraded into a first class facility. The accommodations were quite spacious and very comfortable. Rooms were named for U.S. Presidents and featured many old books. The first day, my wife read an inaugural address by Grover Cleveland for whom our room was dedicated. In addition, there is a library where one may spend an afternoon reading a variety of literature. Each morning at 8:30am, we were treated like a king and queen as we sat down to the most delicious breakfasts! The Reagans were warm and welcoming. Donna is a first rate chef (and interior designer) and Jim has an encyclopedic knowledge of North Country history. Having grown up in Ogdensburg many years ago, I never knew "returning to school" could be such a pleasant experience!

I had a delightful experience at the Sherman Inn, where luxury seamlessly intertwines with rich history. The ambiance was simply enchanting, and I found great joy in lounging in my room, immersed in the pages of a captivating book. The inn exuded an essence of timeless knowledge and refined elegance that enveloped me. It’s a place I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone seeking a unique and enriching getaway.

Beautiful historic B&B with a convenient location to cross border activities. It is a very unusual historic building built in the late 1800s as a school, and functioned as a school until about ten years ago. The owners Jim & Donna clearly love what they do, and have turned entire classrooms into 800 sq ft suites with presidential themes. Beds are comfy, and breakfast was outstanding. I'm gluten intolerant and host / chef Donna prepared gluten free pancakes for me 😋.

Excellent service-host were always helpful, and breakfast was simply great. Would recommend this place to anyone that wants to really enjoy their stay in Ogdensburg and 1000 islands area in general

Only thing that I would recommend as that room cooling system be upgraded to a larger AC. It was extremely hot and humid during our stay and larger unit would have made for a more comfortable nighttime in the room. But still our stay was just great.

Beautifully appointed, refurbished and renovated old school house. Rooms/suites are large and decorated to the theme of each room. Breakfast was 5-star each morning. Finally, the hosts - Jim and Donna are extremely courteous and go out of their way to make the stay as pleasant as possible. Highly recommend the Sherman Inn if you are in the Ogdensburg area.

It is an interesting and uniquely charming B&B with huge rooms. We wished the breakfast was served a little longer and later than 8:30 till 9.

Absolutely most unique bed and breakfast we have ever stayed in. It happened to be my husbands elementary school decades ago. Each classroom is converted into huge suites that have presidential themes. The details for the decor and history was incredible. Donna did an amazing job. Jim you are one of a kind human. The history of the place from the playroom to the library was intense. Thanks for keeping this gem preserved. Breakfast was amazing too. No parking fees or late checkout fees. It’s like being home and cared for. Access to the kitchen 24/7 for water or coffee and snacks was a perk you can’t find.
