Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto

Hotels in Kyoto are usually more expensive than equivalent hotels in Tokyo and Osaka. While the Garrya Nijo Castle is not a budget hotel, it represents an incredible value for what you get. Upon securing an entry level room with a balcony, I was told breakfasts were included in the cost of the stay. Two types of breakfasts - American style and Japanese style. While I am used to having courses for breakfast, the American breakfast started with fruit, breads and coffee with orange juice. Then the second course was eggs of your choice with meats. All servings were more generous than the usual fare. Dinner was also included in the room charge. This was an 8 course Japanese style meal that spanned an amuse bouche, then an appetizer all the way to a main dish and then dessert about four courses later. A meal in an outside restaurant would easily cost $100US per person. The minibar was complementary except for wines and whiskies. The lobby is beautiful and designed to convey a peaceful stress free environment. My balcony overlooked Nijo Castle and I enjoyed several cups of coffee there. I am more used to being nickel and dimed to death in a hotel, so it was refreshing to see a hotel offer so many amenities for a set price.

Extremely well trained staff to take care of your needs. Very nice and receptive. Location is excellent if you want to visit the Nijo Castle but minimal shopping and dining around hotel. Hotel does have a Michelin Star restaurant which was offering free breakfast and dinner during our stay. No gym, no spa and no pool. Rooms were great very spacious with an open feeling. Ours had an elevated dining area on tatami mats. Room safe, well stocked refrig and huge shower and bath.

The best hotel so far in Kyoto. Great staff. Beautiful and very convenient close to the train. Great dinner and breakfast option. Super clean and absolutely moder bathroom.

Nice hospitality and environment. Breakfast was excellent with choice of western and Japanese.

From the reception on arrival, to the staff at breakfast and dinner, I could not have felt more welcome. I stay in many hotels around the world for business and this was one of my favourite. The location was perfect for me and the room was really well equipped. The food was fantastic. The breakfast waiter even helped me with my plans for the day with great advice on where to go. Will definitely return.

Everything about the property was superb. The fantastic service, friendliness and professional staff made our stay very enjoyable.

Outstanding hospitality

A fantastic small boutique hotel in Kyoto. First, service is excellent. Staff is wonderful and helpful. Among the best I have experienced. Second, the hotel is beautiful with an impeccable modern touch. Room is well appointed with lovely furnishings. A lot of care goes into this place. Location across from Nijo makes for a lovely view from the room. The hotel can be compared to any top 5 star hotel. Highly recommend.
