Hammetts Hotel

We spent two lovely nights at Hammetts in early December. Arriving on the only day in three weeks that we experienced rain, we were very grateful that our room was ready and we could check in at 11am. The building and decor are beautiful and the room was spacious for us, two adults and two kids, staying in a Marina King Grand. We did need to make up the sofa bed and day bed ourselves, with sheets and spare pillows kept in the drawers around the room. I probably wouldn’t suggest an adult sleep on the sofa bed as the mattress wasn’t great. The king bed however was lovely, and the views from our room over the deck were exactly what we needed to unwind in the afternoon. We had a fridge in our room which was a very nice surprise as I had read in other reviews that there was no fridge. Coffee was supplied downstairs in the mornings but it was brewed black, so after trying it once I skipped it and went across to one of the nearby coffee shops. Staff were lovely and the kids were given a little colouring-in pack and stickers upon arrival which was a beautiful touch. The hotel is within walking distance to everything, we even walked to The Breakers which was about a 20 minute walk away. Hammetts could be truly exceptional if they had a cafe attached for easy breakfast or a decent coffee, and even more so if it had its own restaurant. But it was the loveliest landing spot in Newport before we ventured off to NYC. (If you are coming by train, we got off at Kingston and got an uber to and from - about a 20 minute drive.)

Everything was great. Carlos was the star. He was excellent! The room had a beautiful view. We watched the sunset on the water.

My best friend and I stayed at the Hammetts Hotel for a girls trip to the East Coast. Once checking in (rather late at night) we were greeted by the kindest staff member named Carlos who was so welcoming and kind and we immediately felt right at home. We were looking for somewhere to eat and he walked us over to the restaurant that is connected to the hotel to make sure we got a seat because he wanted to make sure that we got in a meal because I told him that we were so hungry after a long day of travel. The hotel is located in an amazing location within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants in Newport so we were able to walk everywhere. The rooms were so beautiful and clean and it was so nice to wake up to views of the harbor. I bet this hotel is amazing in the warmer months when you can go outside and take in the views and outdoor dining/drinks. The hotel feels high end and is so stunning and clean. I will definitely stay there again once I go back for another visit!

The highlight of our stay was by far the excellent Service by Carlos at the front desk. We came to visit the Newport mansions and he gave us great recommendations as we sat in the secluded fireplace room just off the lobby. We would love to return!
