Casa Balthazar

We stayed at Casa Balthazar while in Lisbon for our honeymoon (from the U.S.). The staff went above and beyond for our entire stay, and helped make for a wonderful experience. The staff made dinner reservations (which were all lovely) at our request, and generally answered any questions that arose during the week. The hotel's location put us in easy reach of everywhere we wanted to go as well. We highly recommend Casa Balthazar.

We reinforce the wonderful reviews of Casa Balthazar from all of the previous visitors represented below. This is an outstanding boutique hotel that hits the mark on all cylinders. The location for us was perfect -- just 5 minutes down to Rossio Square, which to us is the beating heart of Lisbon. From there it is easy to walk almost anywhere else of great interest. On the other direction, we on two nights walked over to the vibrant Bairro Alto section of Lisbon for the wonderful restaurant and bar scene. (We love exercise and welcomed the chance to go up and down the hill to get down to Rossio Square; those who are averse to any challenging exercise should take note). We took three different guided tours of Lisbon, and the starting point for each was just a short walk away from the hotel. The property itself is a converted estate behind walls, and our room had a terrace with magnificent views out over the town and the castle. The room itself is perfect, with outstanding bathroom and a small kitchen, The breakfast is a high point, with an attentive staff welcoming you as if they were your own personal staff for the meal, great buffet offerings and the opportunity to order custom eggs or pancakes if so desired. The staff is outstanding as well, making guests feel like family, answering any and all questions prior to and during the stay, and the property appears to run like clockwork. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Lisbon.

We will definitely stay at Casa Balthazar again. They truly made our trip to Lisbon unforgettable. To our surprise, they even prepared a thoughtful Valentine’s gift for us, which made our stay feel extra special. The staff was incredibly accommodating, welcoming, and always helpful. The hotel offers stunning views of the city and is perfectly located in the heart of Lisbon, making it easy to explore everything. It was an amazing experience from start to finish.

This hotel hits the mark in all areas! Wonderful buffet breakfast. Room was perfect with a view of the town and castle on the hill. Highlight was the staff. Everyone was so kind and friendly. The main receptionist Ruth went out of her way in so many ways. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in the beautiful city of Lisbon. Book it now and look no further!!!!

The location was perfect and the staff were so kind and helpful! We felt like we were in a small chateau with a lovely living and dining room we could lounge in! The breakfast was delicious as well! The attention to detail was a nice touch! Loved our stay and would come back again!💕

Staff were very friendly. Location very convenient and close walking distance to train station. Breakfast was very good. I liked that you can book an hour each day to have exclusive use of the spa. The private hot tub in the jacuzzi room was very nice and good temperature. Lovely homemade cakes in the communal room. They had umbrellas which we could use during our stay (much needed for when we were there!)

Unfortunately when we used the spa, the steam room did not seem to be working.

This is an exceptionally nice boutique hotel. Gorgeous old building repurposed as a hotel, with spacious, comfortable, and well appointed rooms. A peaceful retreat with terrific views and amazing quiet in a fascinating section of the old town, with many interesting sites, restaurants, and small shops nearby. The breakfast is exceptional, with delicious pastries, fruit, and eggs prepared to order. Best of all: the staff, who were uniformly helpful, kind, and friendly. Highly recommended.

Staff were very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. The breakfast was amazing and you could have a slice of cake all day long even if you missed the breakfast buffet.
