"3rd Visit since they opened in 2007, another great experience."

10.0

This hotel was still under some renovations, but it wasn't very noticeable, as the side that is currently open did not lack in design, comfort, or availability. This is my 3rd time to the resort, and I've loved my experience here each and every time. From check-in staff were attentive, and willing to help with anything. I like that the room keys are now built into your wrist band, so nearly impossible to lose... it just takes a few days to realize your room key is on your wrist. LOL Although construction/renovations were occurring at Grand Riviera Princess, we did not hear any of the construction noise you would expect. We never heard any of the nearby resorts, nor were there any issues with noise from nearby rooms with other guests. Very excellent noise suppression. From the pools, the snack bars, buffet, and various restaurants and bars, each facility was well maintained and staff on standby to ensure all was kept clean and tidy. All guests were friendly and although there were a lot of us Canadians, the Americans seemed to notice a few extra Canadians at the resort these days. Overall another great experience, and I look forward to coming back for another visit, once the other half of the resort has completed renovations, and is fully open for all guests.

"First time in Mexico and we picked the right place to go!"

10.0

This hotel was a treat for us. It was our first trip to Mexico and we weren't sure what to expect having only been to the Dominican and Cuba previously. We were moved over to the Sunset side because the renovations weren't yet completed on the side we booked at. I understand they are identical so to us it was perfectly fine! I don't know how they manage these bookings when all guests were being moved from where they booked to the Sunset side. They did a great job of accomodating reservations. Check in was fast and easy. We were in our rooms within about 30 minutes I think. We were there with 2 other couples and all had booked swimouts. They managed to get us all in the same building and while one couple was way down at the end and not completely happy with the room and its location, the next day when a room beside ours was vacant the reception staff was able to move our friends to the new room. We were all so happy with this. Thank you to the staff for making that happen for us. The rooms are beautiful, clean and for the most part very well appointed. I would suggest a couple things that would make them perfect. I would love to see some hooks on the walls in various places. The lack of a shelf or step in the shower was very annoying to me. Keeping soap, shampoo and facecloths on the floor was not ideal and for someone less mobile than us I can see that being a big turnoff. Also a clothesline on the balcony would have been very helpful to dry things. We used the chairs and the ledge of the balcony but the coatis walked on the ledge and had muddy feet. Having our things hanging would have been better in terms of drying and keeping them clean. The swimouts in building 3 ( 3044, 3043 and 3027 ) were perfect location and had just the right amount of quiet. They were close enough to take a pool walk to the bar and participate in the pool activities if we wanted. The fun atmosphere of the foam party wasn't our scene but it we could tell the entertainment staff is top notch and very professional. We had fun listening and walking through events on our way to the bar. We only booked three a la cartes ( Italian, French, Grill ) and they were ok but honestly the Buffet at this resort is the best we ever been to. If you can't get into an a la carte, don't sweat it ... the buffet is where its at! It was different each day. The food was always hot, not over cooked and a huge selection. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the main lobby and also the second one that is only open for breakfast and lunch at the end of building 3. Francisco was our guy and he really took care of us. One night we were able to get a table for all 6 of us at the sports bar where we watched some hockey and played cards and trivia. Its great that its open all night and has so many tables. It was alot of fun. At night we went to 3 shows and each one was great. These dancers are really talented and we looked forward to seeing what they had in store for us each night. After the show we'd head over for coffee or espresso in the square, sometimes an ice cream also in the square. We did make a small purchase at the Market in the square one night. They weren't overly pushy and we found a nice souvenir to bring home. Unfortunately for us the beach was unusable this past week. The amount of sargassum and the smell was too much. They try hard to keep it clean but it just was too much for us and because of the erosion on the beach it wasn't a place we wanted to be. BUT! the reason we booked this resort was because of the swimouts and the amazing pools they have. Thats where we spent our days; lounging in the clean perfect temperature waters. The best pools anywhere we've been. My only other small bothersome thing is the shuttles. They need one more running. It was difficult to get one that wasn't full already and many many times we ended up walking. There should be one more and that would likely be able to keep up with demand at meal times for people heading to the a la cartes and buffets. We had a great time and will definitely be looking to return to either side of this resort.

"A Wonderful Week's Stay!"

8.0

Let me start by saying that when I booked this resort, I had done my research. I knew that the Riviera side was under construction and I knew that's why I got a good deal. I went in with reasonable expectations and this place certainly exceeded them! If I could give half stars, it would be a solid 4.5. Let me break it down by category: Room - We were in a Deluxe Junior Suite. Beautifully renovated and very clean! The curtains worked so well that every morning I was pleasantly surprised how sunny it was. The maid service was excellent and the room was always made up early (we tipped her daily). The only disappointing thing was the shower. I didn't care so much that there wasn't a shelf in there, it was the fact that it leaked all the way out to the closet! One day we came back from the pool and there was no running water. I called the front desk and someone was there to fix it in about 15 minutes! I was pleased. We told them about the leaking but that was never resolved (partially why my review is 4 stars). The fridge was stocked best when we left money in there. We were in building 9 that was nice and close to the small buffet, the tequila pool/snack bar and the beach. Pools - Lots of options and they all offer different things. Since there are so many, none of them seemed crowded and it was always possible to get a chair, in the shade even. We spent our time at the tequila pool because it was close to our room. We also really liked the snack bar for lunch. I tried most things and they were all great! We had the same poolside server every day, Yolanda, and she was the best! It's too bad that the pools weren't upgraded with the rest of the place. Lots of tiles missing, but always clean. We did an aquafit class one day and were surprised how much of a workout it was haha. Beach - A disappointment for sure. Due to erosion over the years, there is hardly any beachfront. We would take strolls along the water still, but there wasn't much room. There was so much seaweed! The resort is doing the best they can to clean it and it's obviously out of their control, but it prevented us from swimming. Always lots of chairs down there. Restaurants - A true highlight! We've been to several all-inclusives and this was one of the best. LaFleur was our favourite, but we also enjoyed La Volta (shout out to Hector, our amazing server at both), La Hacienda, Amazonico and Dua Wok. The only disappointment was the teppanyaki, Miso. The show was fine but the food was mediocre at best, and hardly any of it. You had to pay extra for lobster or shrimp. The lobster I understand but to not include the shrimp was pretty cheap we thought. Our daughter loved the ice cream shop, especially the milkshakes. The sports bar food looked great but we were always full when we were in there. They made the best cappuccino! The cappuccino's at the buffets were fine, but not as frothy as the sports bar. The buffets were both typical, but we ate breakfast mostly at the small buffet. It had everything you needed and was never too crowded. Humberto was the best waiter there! Grounds - Beautiful and well maintained with lots of wildlife! The path that winds from the lobby to the beach is lined with palm trees and is very lush and tropical, we loved the atmosphere. It is a huge resort and we got lots of steps in, 10k - 15k a day! We enjoy walking but if you had mobility issues, this probably isn't the resort for you. Gym - New and clean. We went a few times and it was never crowded and there were lots of machines and weights. Shows - They were ok. We mostly enjoyed the later ones that were in the plaza. There was always a nice breeze and we just really enjoyed the ambience. Bars - Plenty and the drinks were great! You had to be platinum to have premium liquor, which we also found cheap, especially since the premium liquor was still not. A true 5 star resort would include this for all levels. Overall we had a fantastic vacation and I would highly recommend! It is definitely a family place (tons of kids) and there are lots of activities for them, including the water park. You won't be disappointed!

"AMAZING!!!"

10.0

Just returned from 9 nights at this hotel. Honestly cannot fault anything! From checking in (Jorge was fabulous) to the food & drinks (shout out to Margarita & Isabela in the lobby), literally everything was amazing. There’s party places round the pool as well as quiet places, literally something for everyone. Had such a great time have already booked to return. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay magical ☺️
