Mercure Newport Hotel

Good hotel

Everything was good. I like scrambled eggs at breakfast and the plates were cold apart from that all ok. The shower was easy io use. It is good taht the room temerature was preset.

Excellent room, all as should be. Exceptionally friendly staff.

Bed was comfortable, very quiet area even though pubs was nearby lovely welcoming staff

I read a review recently that said the pillows were uncomfortable. I don’t know if any changes have been made but I found them fine. The terrace bar is lovely particularly as I was there on a blisteringly hot day.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Unfortunately it was interrupted during the night by a triggered fire alarm. I appreciate this can't have been foreseen. The only reason I however mentioned this was the treatment we received after the 2:30am wake up call. We all evacuated the hotel as expected. The staff during this evacuation were, in my opinion below par. There was no explanation as to why it had happened. There was no apology until we arrived home via email. There was very poor communication during the event. All we got was a "You can come back in now". No one explained anything after. Nothing was mentioned at breakfast or on check out. It just fell short of my expectations. However the positives were also worth mentioning. I paid for an additional service on arrive with a bottle of Prosecco and chocolate covered strawberries. These were well presented on arrival. The Prosecco was on ice. On top of this the bed was arranged with flower petals and balloons were blown up, Towels were also folded in the form of a heart. None of this was expected but their attention to detail here was definitely worth the £40 on top. Room service was great. Trevor who dealt with the majority of issues and additional services was incredible. Nothing was too much for him, and I can't thank him enough. The bed was very comfy. The pillows pleasent and the experience of the room itself was great. I couldn't fault the actual hotel. The only fall short was the staff handing.

Check in was slower than normal. Room was clean. Got woken up by fire alarm at 02.15 on sunday morning. No one had any idea why. No apology. Everyone gathered outside however no staff were present to account the guests. Check out was quick however again no apology or explanation as to why tge fire alarm went off so early in the morning. I feel that a complementary breakfast could have been offered. Will probably not stay there again after this.

We had a 3 night stay at the Mercure, and unfortunately on our last night the fire alarm went off twice! We had to rush down 13 flights of stairs at 2:30am, only to be told it was a false alarm for us and it was a building they are connected too. We did find food down the side of our sofa bed we had in our room, it has definitely been there a while. Other than that we didn’t have any other issues and did enjoy our stay, many shops and food locations within walking distance for easy access.

No idea why, but there were 3 fire alarms the night I stayed there so not a great nights sleep. Probably not the hotels fault, but no-one gave us an explanation so who knows. Then when I went for breakfast almost half the tables hadn't been cleaned from other guests. Doubt that is the fault of the staff they employ, but more a symptom of not having enough staff full stop. Nothing says profit like not employing enough staff. Location is good for Newport. Check in was good, I made a mistake when booking but that was quickly sorted out.

hotel was great and the Potters across the road had a great breakfast. Just did not feel safe going out late in evening
